Success and/or failure in the vacuum industry are not measured solely on unit sales and/or market share.

Product performance, reliability, customer satisfaction and product longevity factor into the equation for success.

If sales alone defined a vacuum's success (as you suggest), the Regina Electrik Broom (the most units of any vacuum product ever made and sold in the US) would be the most successful vacuum product ever made and marketed.

Unfortunately despite spectacular sales, their performance was terrible, their reliability was terrible, their customer satisfaction after usage was less than mediocre and the product eventually died an ignominious death.  Very much like the Fantom vacuums.

Where are they now?  Long gone and since forgotten.

Thanks for explaining why the Z failed.  Poor performance like so many other recent Hoovers.

It also sounds like many of the few Zs sold were returned too.  I immediately knew it was a fairlure the first time I saw/tried it out.  Unfortunately for Hoover, most new things they have come out with since the Windtunnel and Steamvac V2 have been full of design issues and/or miserable failures.   I hate to put it that way, but thats how it seems to be going.   Sad

I have the HOOVER Z 400.  I've used it for several months now while I paint and renovate my house for resale.  It works superbly.  I'm gifting it to my daughter in August after we move to our new home in Vegas.  She loves it.  I'm upgrading to the deluxe Z 700.

THe HOOVER Z 700 offers (over the Z 400):

Pet hair cleaning tool
16 inch cleaning wand
14 inch floor brush
Lifetime LED lights
Gentle brush setting
35 foot power cord

When nothing but the best will do, the HOOVER Z is for you.  Wink

No matter what the Hoover cleaner still gets the rugs CLEAN...isn't that the whole reason one vacuums in the first place?  The Hoover Company has more choices on the ways to get the dirt.  Their product line appeals to more people and all models will get your rug CLEAN the Hoover way!!!!  From the "Z" on down, the Hoovers just clean and clean and clean.

Yes, I look for a glorious celebration on August 8,2008 as we here in North Canton recognize an industry leader's centennial.  After all, we do Hoover our rugs!

Spring or Fall the HOOVER gets it all!  It still beats as it sweeps as it cleans.

So, why does it matter how other brands clean so long as they clean.  BTW,  do you recommend the use a Hoover to clean those pleated filters.  If so how often should the filter be replaced in the extra vacuum.

HS:

Filter change frequency is the same for all vacuums.  Replacement depends on usage and dirt build up.  Same as with dyson vacuums.  That's the reason there are both genuine dyson and bojack dyson filters available for purchase.  Isn't this explained in the dyson dealer non-disclosure agreement?

Still doing the twist I see.  No pleated filters or screens to clog in a Dyson.  The foam filters are easily cleaned 2 or 3 times annually, not 2 or 3 times with each use as is required with Hoover.

Hi OT.  K & N should get in the Hoover filter business.  Might even increase Hoover's performance.
