New Hoover Constellation

Is it just as durable as the old one, in the advertisemetns it says it has all steel, construction is this true. Smiley

I'm thinking about buying my mom one for Christmas because she's a vacuum fanatic as well, and her old Kenmore has just about run its course.

Hello Vaclov:

If you do a search, you'll find several threads on the new HOOVER Constellation on the Forum.

Not many retailers carry the new HOOVER Constellations and/or they sell ONLY through their website.

HOOVER dealers and authorized factory stores have both models: with/without the power nozzle for rug cleaning.  In fact, due to the brisk sales of these new HOOVER Constellations some HOOVER store managers (like the store in Las Vegas Nevada) upped the prices recently.  A bad move (IMHO).

These are very nice vacuums, all steel bodies, steel telescopic wands, filtrette bags (optional), decent attachments.  The new HOOVER Constellations closely resemble their predecessors from the late 50's and 60's.  The resemblance is almost uncanny, deja vu all over again, retro design to the max, a dead ringer identical twin.  I believe a smart product by HOOVER, especially with the increased interest in retro appliances and canns.  HOOVER capitalizes on both with the new Constellation.

The power nozzle is a little on the weak side for my liking.  It's turbo rather than electric powered but will do a decent job on most US carpets.  The new Constellations go for about $200.  Worth every penny IMHO.

Yes, my new Connie is quite a vacuum.  It has very good suction and is very well made.  You get a lot of bang for the buck with this latest Hoover model.  I much prefer an upright, but this machine is a lot of fun to use.  It is quiet and easy to use.  I agree that the turbine tool is kinda weak but overall I think that it is a great canister.

I finally saw the Costellation but haven't used one yet but plan to add it to my vac collection.  It's a nice thing Hoover is making improvements to their vacs quality-wise like the Constellation's comeback.  One thing Hoover needs to do is to put a Quadraflex PN (the early style) & it'd be true vintage again. Smiley

How good are the bristles on the Turbo PN?  I hope they're not spaced out like the other brands' turbo nozzles.

IMO, "style" in a vacuum cleaner is rather silly.
The macine must be functional and practical - thats all...
And "all steel" impresses me not; we live in the plastic age, not the iron age...Plactics come in differing quality levels, the same as with wood, rubber or steel..
I'd like to see more and better selection in the "light weight" field, Oreck needs the competition; the consumer will benefit.

NO -- style will always mean something in the mix when we set out to "shop".  Try equating a vacuum purchase with the purchase of an automobile.  Yes basic requirements are important but the look of the thing that gets you down the road is important to most consumers as well.

Just the same as many car buyers have gone and will go for the trade-off of looks over service, vacuum purchasers do the same.  It is harder to supply examples from modern stock but using past examples, elegance of style has taken Electrolux, Hoover, Eureka, AirWay, Filter Queen,  Miele and many other vacuum brands a long way.  Most shopping for anything  in this country is not a cool and analytical feat though I would that it were.

This even effects picky old me too.  Though I most surely comprehend that "looks aren't everything" I will not have an appliance in my household that does not pleasure my eye -- no matter how high its performance.

This seems to apply in all things.  What's more commom than chicken?  Chicken is a chicken, yeah, but when you put it on a plate and throw a little parsley and bread crumbs or put a glaze on it folks take it as slightly less than ordinary everyday fare.  C'est la vie.  Such fools we mortals are.

Will Hoover make a Constellation with an electric PN esp. early Quadraflex or older style powermatic nozzle?  If they do, I'd definitely buy a Constellation. Smiley

Speaking on the Hoover Vacuums. Did Home Depot drop the Hoover vacuums?

Hello Chris:

HOME DEPOT stores carried an exclusive vacuum and floorcare line for several years called the MAYTAG Legacy: Upright, canister, and rug cleaner.  My sense is with the sale by Whirlpool of HOOVER vacuums to TTI, the MAYTAG (now owned by Whirlpool and not the HOOVER parent company) Legacy line is discontinued.  Store locations, like the ones in North Las Vegas, still carry the HOOVER Floormate and HOOVER EmPower, which is on sale this week (the EmPower has been in the HOOVER line up since 2004).  The HOOVER Floormate, EmPower, and the HOOVER Z 400 were sold along side the MAYTAG Legacy line and still.  With the Z 400 being closed out as recently noted by Venson on the Forum.

Will HOOVER (now owned by TTI) enter into an agreement with HOME DEPOT to carry and sell an exclusive floorcare line similar to the MAYTAG Legacy?  Or with Lowe's Stores which had an exclusive and more extensive HOOVER floorcare line (HOOVER Preferred) before the MAYTAG Legacy line?  We'll have to wait and see.

HOME DEPOT went through a major management shake up in Dec 2006 with the firing and buyout of its CEO Nardelli.  The stores' 2006 sales and profits were atrocious and I suspect many changes are in the works.
