Hoover Mach3 - a Fusion?
02/06/07 at 3:01am

So Wal-Mart is now selling the Hoover Mach3, which looks incredibly like the Hoover Fusion.  Is this Hoover's way of trying to dodge the Consumer Reports' bullet?  Change the color and remove a ring from inside the dirt cup?

They had yet another chance to add a HEPA filter and blew it again.

I still say that the Dirt Devil Spinnergy would kick the Mach3/Fusion's butt!

The HOOVER FUSION is a first generation cyclonic "sourced" upright made by TTI with the HOOVER brand name and emblem exclusively for sale at Wal*Mart and Sam's Club stores.  It is now going on almost 2 years old.  By most product and brand standards, especially vacuums and HOOVER, two years is a "seasoned" and "mature" product cycle for the big box store venue.  Especially just ONE store.  It is by all market measures a phenominal marketing success.  AND...............in spite of the Consumer Reports "NOT RECOMMENDED" label.  If you have a product that is a success, what do you do?  A makeover!

The Mach3 is a makeover of the FUSION.  A make over is what it is...a makeover:  New name, new color, and quite possibly less dust emissions to satisfy the CR test standards.  And finally the suction claim (disclaim) is right once and for all: "Maintains constant suction up to 10 ounces of dirt based on the ASTM test F558."  The "old" HOOVER FUSION still has product literature, stick on labels, and cartons which say something slightly different and incorrect.  (Remember the Spinnergy analogy: Once the food chain is contaminated, it's harder to purify.  Better to recall, correct, and resell.)

Like it's predecessor, the Mach3 will sell well in its sales venue.  And allow other big box stores to market a similar competitor: The Dirt Devil Spinnergy.  If the HOOVER FUSION success is any market indicator then the HOOVER MAch3 and Dirt Devil Spinnergy will sell well too.

(Note: The similar names for vacuums and razors.)

Does the Spinnergy have a turbo tool on board?  Wink

Remember:  TTI owns both HOOVER and Royal Dirt Devil now.  That poses a new set of interesting challenges.  How do you produce and market similar products at prices that compete against each other in the same sales venue?

I may not understand what you mean by on board.  Do you mean does it attach to the unit for storage and can be removed and then plugged into the hose?  If that's what you mean, then yes it does.  Smiley

It's above the dirt container.  Here's another image of the box I took (with actually better lighting than the others I posted):
