SAE 30 Oil - Full Synthetic ?
Original Message   Jun 22, 2005 8:41 pm
Hi...

Can't find it... Previously bought it from AMSOIL... the only source I found... don't see it in their catalogs or website now... still available ? ( too lazy to call 'em...)

I use it in my OPE... Got Mobil-1 10w-30 instead...

Hi Guys!

The Amsoil 30wt synthetic is marketed as "Diesel Oil". If you read the container it comes in it explains it can be used in any type of engine requiring 30wt. My Amsoil dealer still has it on the shelf. He says it only comes packaged in gallon containers.

The Kawasaki owners manual for the OHV engines warns you that while the use of 10w30 is acceptable you can expect the engines to use oil. They state that the use of straight 30wt. will eliminate this consumption.

That's good to know! Guess I'll steer clear of Kawa's until that gets straitened out.

Hi Again-

Just noticed the new label on the Amsoil 30wt. It now says 10w30/30wt. Think they are trying to cover their bases against the Mobil10/30 Synthetic? The old  Amsoil Diesel label read 30wt. Nothing about 10w30!!

Where's Blue99 when you need him? It looks like it says it meets or exceeds both of the requirments, 10W30 and 30W. Got me?

That's interesting, I don't know much about oil grades, but I think 10W-30 is lighter than SAE 30.  I wonder how they mix both of them together to make that.

Marshall,

I use the Mobil 10W30 in my Husqvarna lawn tractor and it has the Kawasaki engine.  I have not had a problem with it using oil at all.  I think they may put that on there just to cover themselves if someone decides to put a cheap brand of 10W30 dino oil instead of something of quality.  I would not let that scare you away from the Kawasaki engine.

UC113,

I'm glad to hear that!! I can't imagine a company making an engine that only runs on 30W oil today.

Thanks a lot for the heads up!

BTW, how's the Husky doing this summer?

hey now about that oil...

you also need to know that there is a difference in air cooled engine oil and liquid cooled engine oil.

thyere are very few oils that will say anything about being for air cooled engines .

and on the kawi engine ...use the 30 wt .

I also have a Kawasaki on my Scag mower, and i run straight 30 wt. Almost ANY engine will burn some oil, and oil consumption CAN and WILL increrase when a thinner oil is used.

Years ago cars ran fine with thicker oils. Heck, have some bad bearings in a old big block, run heavier oil to keep the oil pressure up. But with newer engines, and " Energy Conserving" thinner lubricants, tolerances although tighter, can alow some oil by and burn off. My ford 4.6 burns a quart or so between changes, and the manual stresses 5W30. I bet some 40 wt would elimiate the loss.
