For all who appreciate TV ads for vacuums and floorcare products take special note of the new BISSELL SpotBot ad.  It's a first prize winner.  It incorporates all the elements of a top notch TV ad and product promo.  The best I've seen so far.  Congrats to BISSELL for a first class TV commercial.

A nice array of big box store floorcare sales this week to share.

First, this must be the break out week for the dyson DC18 Slim. Several retailers have it advertised for $469 and no discounts (yet).  Never made it as an "indy" exclusive through June.

BEST BUY is absent this week for vacuum sales opting instead to get an early Easter start on the sale.  How's that working for them?

KOHL's has a sale from April 25-28 and some vacuum deals with $20 mail-in rebates.  THe HOOVER WT Supreme for $99 after the rebate.  I paid $150 for this model in August 2006.  It's the best carpet cleaner and groomer for my Mohawk wool rugs that I've found so far.  And it has the embedded dirt finder.  So if it's clean, and you get the green light (to go) you can move onto the dirty rug areas.

BISSELL bagless Lift-off for $149 after the rebate (Beats the LOWE's price).  And the BISSELL Healthy HOME for $229 after the rebate.  Shop around and you can do better on the HH.  And the BISSELL ProHeat Clearview and  ProHeat 2X for $149 and $229 respectively.  (You can do better on the ProHeat 2x from TARGET this week).  And the HOOVER SteamVAc ALL TERRAIN for $259.  I think you can shop for better prices.  These are the features.

Buried in the miscellaneous ads so small you can hardly see is a dyson vacuum ad.  Entire stock 20-50 percent off.  But no prices.  And the DC07 All Floors and Animal illustrated.  Caution with dyson sales at KOHL's.  Usually the sale price is the MSRP at most other big box retailers.  And you have to shop the store location.  Sometimes dyson model prices vary from store to store.

TARGET has it's Dirt Dirt Vibe bagless for $45; the BISSELL Velocity for $129 and a $20 Giftcard; THe dual cyclonic Dirt Devil bagless Reaction for $149; the BISSELL ProHeat 2x for $199 plus a $20 Giftcard.  (Beats the KOHL's price).  And last but not least the dyson DC18 Slim for $469.

KMART has the Dirt Devil EAsy Steamer for $89 with a free bottle of floor cleaner.  And the DD REaction for $159.  (TARGET beat the price). And the Eureka BOSS lite bagless for $37.

CIRCUIT CITY struggling to compete with the big box retailers has the BISSELL Power Trak for $99 and the dyson DC14 for $429 before 10 percent savings.  It appears the DC07's are finally sold out and/or CC is trying to see if the latter and later model sells better.  I'd opt for the latter (no pun intended).  Like Jimmy P the OT says, and I'll modify slightly, DC07's are like wood burning stoves:  Everybody who wanted one bought it already.  The bad thing about going the big box route for the vacuum purchases, no trade in to upgrade to the latest and greatest.  And of course after you plunk your big money down at the big box retailers and the product needs parts and repairs, where do you go?  The indy's...that's right.  And if you're not one of their regulars and need the part, you going to pay the piper.  If you can get it.  I'd save it for my regulars if push comes to shove.
Business is business.

Finally, LOWE's has an array of BISSELL products for sale too with 20 percent off.  The Quick Steamer for $99; ProHeat for $169; LiftOff for $169; SPotBOt for $119 and SpotLIfter for $39.  And a feature ad on the DC18 dyson lite for $469.

Finally, while hitting the daily weeklies with quarter page ads for the XL21, David Oreck decided to have a full page ad in the Sunday PARADE for his XL Tower and Table top Air Purifiers.  You go Dave.  Let's see how your XL works on my new wool Mohawk carpets and maybe I'll fork over some bucks for an Oreck Air Purifier (with the dear Wife's permission).

The big winner this week has to be BISSELL with its products and particularly the rug cleaners.  Apparently all the big box retailers have the same mindset: Sring Cleaning after Easter.

HAPPY RUG CLEANING DAYS.............

Ms. Helen Walton, the matriarch of the Walton family, died last Thursday of natural causes at the age of 87.  May her soul rest in peace.

The Walton family has held sway over the the stores for 45 years through a 41 percent ownership in the stock through a family partnership (valued currently at $81 BILLION based on a stock price of $48 plus)  of which the late Ms. Walton held over 8 percent.  The family announced that the stock she held will be donated away to charities over the next several years decreasing the family ownership to 33 from 41 percent.  This according to some analysts is a good thing for investors.  Sam Walton, her husband and Wal*Mart's founder, died in 1992.

In May, BEST BUY stores will resume selling a full line of Maytag appliances.  In early 2005, as Dyson Chris pointed out at the time on this Forum, BEST BUY stopped carrying Maytag washers and refrigerators because it said consumers preferred other brands.

In April, retailer Lowe's Cos. began selling Amana-brand appliances, a line which Whirlpool acquired along with Maytag.

Overseas demand for Whirlpool appliances may see it through the USA housing slump.  WP Q1 reports surprised Wall Street analysts with results that were 40% higher than estimates bolstered by operating profits that doubled in Latin America, Europe, and Asia operations.

The better than expected results were an indication that WP's acquisition of Maytag Corp, its large ailing competitor, a year ago is reaping benefits.  Analyst Laura Champine (Morgan Keegan)  said the fact that WP reaffirmed its 2007 earnings outlook despite the down US housing market is "really substantial."  She said: "You are starting to see signs of cost synergies" from the WP--Maytag merger.  WP restated its 2007 per share projection of $8-$8.50.  WP shares jumped 14 percent on the news to $102.85.

Carmine, I read the press release the other day about Best Buy and Maytag. Now the new Maytag Front Load washing machine is made by Whirlpool instead of Samsung.

You're right--along with the Whirlpool earnings report.  With 70-80 percent of the washer market, WP has a lock on the sales.  The merger was good for WP and obviously good for Maytag.

You probably know the problems that Samsung has been experiencing too from the news and financial reports.

Several big box retailers with vacuums for sale this week.

BEST BUY has the dyson DC18 Slim still posing as a lightweight.  But no deals: $469.  How's that working for sales?  Haven't seen a DC21 for sale since inception in Feb 2006 and have't seen a review for it (other than mine on the Forum).

A new entree: the HOOVER WT 2 "bagged" for $229.  With turbo tool on board.

The Eureka SmartVac Upright for $149 and the HOOVER Elite Rewind for $99.

CIRCUIT CITY has the DC07 Animal for $499 before 10 percent savings in store.  THe BISSELL HEalthy Home for $249 (before 10% off).  Look for the BISSELL $20 rebate too.  And the HOOVER WT bagless for $159 (before 15% off).

KMart joins in with THe BISSELL Momentum bagless upright for $99.  Little green BISSELL portable deep cleaner for $69 and SpotBot for $129.  (Look for the deals on these BISSELL's too.  THe Shark bagless stick for $39; the Eureka Maxima bagless lightweight upright for $49; AND the Sears Kenmore bagged canister for $149 (the quocomole green).

ORECK skipped Sunday and went with the dialies including Saturday.  Dave pitches his favorite the XL21 with the big bennies:
21 year Warranty, 21 free annual tune-ups, $100 trade in allowance; and the giveaways: canister.  Proudly announcing over 450 Oreck Clean Home Centers across America with Dave's face and hand showing Oreck's Number 1.

That's all folks.  No real winners this week EXCEPT "bagged" vacuums which seem to be getting more sales space over bagless in the $150 and above price range.

HAPPY CLEAN CARPET VACUUMING TRAILS..................
