I gave my Oreck to my mom, who is seventy-eight, LOVES her independence, and has crippling arthritis, when she got new carpets installed in September.

This lightweight vacuum enables her to vacuum with something more substantial than a stick vac.  She is utterly unimpressed with cyclones and filters, and values its light weight and relative simplicity to almost everything else out there (she took one look at my beloved new Iridium and rolled her eyes!)

What I'm saying is, as much of a huckster as Mr. Oreck can be, he DOES fill an important niche in the market, with a product that is simply not as bad as some people here make it out to be.

I also have to mention, I was somewhat impressed with his demonstration of corporate responsibility during and after the New Orleans catastrophe.  If more business owners would even attempt to behave themselves in a similar manner, whether the reasons were ultimately a PR bonanza or not, we as a country and as an industrial power would be in a hell of a better situation than we are now.

David Oreck continued to pay ALL Oreck employees displaced from their homes and jobs by Hurricane Katrina their normal salaries and benefits all during the time the Oreck plant and headquarters building were shuttered.

Oreck was also one of the first if not the first vacuum company to market and sell a "pink" Oreck to support the Komen Cancer Foundation for breast cancer research.  With a guaranteed donation of $250,000 regardless of the pink product sales.

There's a real dirth of vacuum cleaner ads this week probably due to the Thanksgiving Holiday.  I'm not sure any brand wins the kudos save IRobot which gets the nod at Circuit City and BEST BUY.  CC has the Rhoomba Red for $149 and Discovery model for $249.  Dyson DC07 All Floors and DC07 Animal for $399 and $499.  I'll be happy to see these first generation dysons gone forever once and for all.  BISSELL Lift-Off and HOOVER Savvy on sale too.

BEST BUY has the Electrolux Pronto and IRobot Discovery for $99 and $279 respectively.  But wait, not to be outdone by CC, BB offers a $25 Instant Gift Card on the IRobot.

SEARS has the dyson DC14 Drive for $479, and the usual array of floorcare products: Kenmore Progressive bagged canister for $249, EUREKA Super BOSS bagless for $39, Kenmore bagless upright for $69, HOOVER Steam Vac $179 and BISSELL Proheat 2X for $249.

HOME DEPOT is offering 10 percent off on all appliances over $297 now until November 22.  Low and behold the DC14 ALL Floors for $429 before the 10 percent off.

POLEEZE tell me why a dyson buyer would buy a DC07 Original at Wal*Mart for $378 with a 2 year warranty when a DC14 with a 5 year warranty can be purchased at $387.  Please say dyson and Wal*Mart are not that stupid that they think they can fool dyson buyers.  It ain't gonna work.  Dyson, bite the bullet, do the right thing and extend the warranty on the DC07 Original so there is dyson warranty parity on all your uprights.  It's the right thing to do.  If not, Wal*Mart will have a ton of pretty unsold boxed and returned dysons.  And Wal*Mart ain't gonna eat these dysons after the Holidays.  Dyson will have to take them back, agree to a lower sales price, and/or find another retailer to unload them on and bail them out.  Kinda hard for the latter with a Wal*Mart dyson exclusive model.  Maybe Sam's Club?

Also, HD has the Maytag (HOOVER) legacy series canister vacuum and Carpet cleaner on sale for $139 and $239 respectively.

That's all folks.................not quite!  Saving the best for last!

Mr. Dave "The Original Vacuum Man" Oreck has a quarter page ad in the main section of the Las Vegas newspapers.  Not just any ad.  No, not Dave the consumate vacuum salesman.  Standing in a winter wonderland, Mr. Vacuum Man Dave has one foot on a sleigh, a holly wreath in his hand and Santa hat adorning his head.  With the locations of the two Oreck stores in Las Vegas and Henderson Nevada the XL Classic Upright is offered for $299 WITH the Compact canister and Electrikbroom FREE.   What a guy!  80 something and still going strong.

Hey Carmine,
Can you post a link or point out who is selling Dyson DC 14's for $387.  That would be an awesome deal.  Is it perhaps someone closing out their DC 14 animals?

Hello JimB:

Yes I will.  I mentioned in my post it is the weekly HOME DEPOT advertisement now through Nov 22.  The $387 is for the DC14 All Floors AFTER the 10 percent discount for all appliances (over $297) including floorcare through Nov 22, 2006.

Hope all is well.

Hmmm...  Great deal, especially when you factor in the 6 month interest free financing.  I hadn't seen that one.  Only good through Wednesday though.

Agree.  The start date was Nov 19 appearing in the daily newspaper.  The DC14 is a second generation dyson, not even first.

The dyson DC07 All Floors (first generation) for $399 comes with a 5 YEAR WARRANTY.  The Wal*Mart DC07 Original for $378 comes WITH A 2 YEAR WARRANTY.

The DC07 All Floors has been selling recently (see my previous posts) with 20 percent off at retailers like LNT and BB&B so the price after discount is $319.  With a 5 year Warranty.

Wal*Mart will not sell many exclusive dyson DC07 Original models for $378 with a 2 year warranty.  This leaves two options:  Dyson extends the warranty on the DC07 Original at Wal*Mart to 5 years and/or Wal*Mart lowers the price.............substantially.

With the past trials and tribulations between dyson and Wal*Mart on the DC07 All Carpets and All Floors, what do you think will be done?

BTW Capital One VISA card offers a free dyson DC14 All Floors for 46000 miles as part of its Fall 2006 Rewards.

I stand corrected.  The HOME DEPT sale on appliances commenced Nov 16 and runs through today Nov 22.

For Thanks Giving Day purchases in November and December, sales of Samsung appliances at retailers like BEST BUY and CompUSA have added benefits.  Visit the website below.

http://www.4seasonsofhope.com/4seasons_hope/content.html

And to find out more about the hospital, visit

 www.arnoldpalmerhospital.org.

During November and December when you purchase selected Samsung products at retailers like BEST BUY and CompUSA stores, a portion will be given back to the Arnold Palmer Hospital.  Or you can donate at the registers.  Ask when you buy.  "Because a little help can make a big difference."

On Thanksgiving, give thanks for your blessings and give to those who need.

Big week for vacuum sales at the big box retailers.  Just about all the stores are advertising their floorcare products on sale and will continue right up through and after the new year.

Let's start with the PARADE: The full page ad features the teal Euro-Pro Infinity by Shark.  No price. But we know from the retailers' sales this week that this model regularly sells at TARGET, KOHLS, Linens N Things, and Bed Bath and Beyond for $199 to $219.  The ad is very well done and it obviously is geared to compete with the dyson using the identical verbage which dyson made famous: NEVER LOSES SUCTION.  But it does one better: THE ONLY VACUUM WITH 24 CYCLONES.  That's a blow below the belt to James Dyson as the inventor of the cyclone suction technology.

TARGET has the teal Infinity on sale this week with the "NEW AT TARGET" designation for $199.  Also the BISSELL HEALTHY HOME carries the same designation: NEW AT TARGET with a $299 price tag.  And the dyson first generation DC07 Animal for $499 before a $50 TARGET GIFTCARD.  Not a very good price when you see what the other retailers are offering to cull their supply of first and second generation dysons.

For example, Linens and Things is selling the DC07 Animal for $499 and DC15 Ball All Floors for $499 BUT WAIT, don't forget the 20 percent off coupon bringing the DC07 Animal down to $399.  Now tell me again how Wal*Mart will sell the DC07 Original with a 2 YEAR WARRANTY for $378 when the DC07 ANIMAL with a 5 Year WARRANTY sells for $399.  Wal*Mart has to be fuming with dyson over the unsold DC07 Originals gathering dust on the shelves.

Also on sale by LNT is the Roomba Scheduler for $329 before the 20 percent off coupon.

Circuit City joins the dyson first and second generation sales with the DC07 All Floors for $399, the DC14 All Floors for $429, and the DC07 Animal for $499.  Wait, there's more: A 10 percent savings on all floorcare so reduce the dysons to $360, $387, and $450 respectively.  So let's see, the DC14 with a 5 YEAR WARRANTY is $387 and the DC07 at Wal*Mart with a 2 YEAR WARRANTY is $378.  Which one is the better dyson deal.  Dah?

Does anyone else see a battle brewing again between Wal*Mart and dyson over the price and warranty on the DC07 Original.  $378 for a first generation dyson with a first generation dyson warranty of 2 YEARS is trouble for Wal*Mart with a capital "T."  I see unsold dysons on the Wal*Mart shelves after Christmas with no buyers UNLESS something drastic happens quickly like right away to drop the price of dysons at Wal*Mart and/or extend the WARRANTY to 5 YEARS and/or both.

CC also has the HOOVER and BISSELL upright floorcare products on sale with the 10 percent off. Including the latest WT 2 bagless Extra Reach for $299 less 10 percent or $279 which includes the extra reach hose and large bare floor tool.  And the BISSELL ProHeat 2X for $249 before the 10 percent off.

BEST BUY has the dyson DC07 Animal for $499 and the new dyson DC17 Absolute Animal for $549.  Sorry folks no dyson deals.  Even the DCRoot 6 Hand Held for $149 doesn't get a deal with it.  HARD TO BELIEVE.  The retailer that talked James into the US vacuum market is letting the other retailers out do them on the dyson deals.  What can this mean?

But don't fret.  BEST BUY is offering a $70 GIFT CARD with the combined purchases of the HOOVER Floormate for $129 and the HOOVER WT 2 bagless Surface Command with electronic carpet height adjustment for $305.  BEST BUY isn't the only retailer offering the combo savings on HOOVER.  Kohls, SEARS, TARGET, and a plethora of other big box retailers including HOOVER factory stores are offering $50 to $100 off on the purchases of Floormates and WT 2 models through January 8, 2007.  Excellent marketing deal IMHO.

And finally SEARS with its usual array of Kenmore products AND the BISSELL HEALTHY HOME for $299, dyson DC17 Absolute Animal $549 and BISSELL Pro Heat 2X for $249.  Sorry no deals.

That's it folks.  It looks like the big box retailers are getting their wheels in motion for a big time blast of Christmas vacuum cleaner sales.
