No.  HOOVER sells through its own nationwide network of factory stores and authorized dealers in addition to the big box retailers.  The HOOVER Z models are available through their stores and authorized dealers nationwide.

Truth is the Z is another failure from Hoover.  The indepent stores pulled them leaving no choice but to sell through Hoover stores.

I prefer to think that the big box retailers wanted to make shelf space for the new HOOVER WindTunnel 2.  This product is a proven sales success for years and a top rated performer by Consumer Reports, a pub that many buyers of vacuums in the $200+ range follow very closely for purchases.

Even Wal*Mart stores which typically does not carry and sell the HOOVER WT due to the price added the new HOOVER WT 2 to its vacuum venue.

I was in Sears over the weekend to play with the new Kenmore canister (AMAZING) and to see the new Hoover V2 WindTunnel and when I went to show my boyfriend the Z it wasn't there!  The saleslady said that they had only sold one and it came back the next day.  She said they dropped them (not literally).  Even said that they sent the floor model back to Hoover!  Hmmmmm.....

The new HOOVER is the WindTunnel 2, not V2 as I incorrectly posted prior to its US launch.

You are right... I didn't mean V2.  Of course this thread is about the demise of the Z, I hope that we don't convert the topic.

Demise?  Not really.

The HOOVER Z is very much alive and still for sale, just not at the big box retailers who want product that will sell and sell quickly.  The HOOVER Z is an esoteric vacuum and not for the big box retailers.  I love mine.

The HOOVER Centennial will be heralded in with the HOOVER Z or an updated version of the same (and I expect several other new vacuum and floorcare products specially for the momentous occasion).
