Yes, Silver King vacuum cleaners are still around.  They are now updated w/ the Wessel-Werk deluxe power nozzle.

O.T.,
Silver King by Thompson sold out to another company about 20 years ago. The distibutors in my area quit handling them when the new owners increased the price to them and the consumer. What sold for $500 went up to over $1500 over night. No changes just ownership. I serviced 2 in last couple of weeks.
Did you notice they were playing on the lifetime limited warranty. Their warranty is actualy three years. They say they will replace the motor after that for $90 to the original owner. How many people bought a Kirby when they were told it had a lifetime warranty and only had 3 years.

Hi Tiger21.

Yes i am well aware of the kirby 3 year factory warranty,[on defective materials].

If the cleaner is going to break, it usually breaks out of the box or after 1 or 2 uses.

People seem to interpet the lifetime rebuild policy as a lifetime parts and labor warranty as long as they own it.

I have to explain this to at least 3 or 4 customers a week.

buyer beware...............

Things do not necessarily break "right away", if this is going to happen at all.
Toyota makes their oil passages a bit too small, thus after 100K miles, the engine is shot due to sludging caused by serveral things.
Should Toyota buy the customer a new engine ???
This , in fact, is a defective design...
The same applies to a vaccum cleaner - the plastic is too thin, but after 1,000 hours of use, it finally breaks ..
This is defective design, as the manufacturer should know better..

Lifetime warranty opens up a can of worms . IMO, warrantys are generally worthless.
I take the chance, buy used from the most honest, the previous owner...

The key to lifetime warrantys is to find out what lifetime they are referring to.   My friend had a set of cookware that had a lifetime warranty.  When the coating failed, they told her the set was over five years old and that was the life expectancy of that merchandise, as it was warranted for the life of the product.

BTW--My mother had a Kirby replaced under their "Lifetime Agreement to Rebuild".  The Kirby was destroyed by fire.  All she did was send an affidavit to Kirby with a newpaper clipping for the fire, they then requested the information from the local distributor that originally sold the sweeper.  They, Kirby, had a brand new machine delivered  to her for $22.50.  The cost of the rebuild for that machine when she bought it  in the late 50's .  This was honestly the only time I have heard of the Agreement being used or honored (this was by the way in 1979 when the fire occured so the machine was at least 30 years old at the time), but she was quite pleased and has told everyone that would listen; and thus we have pushed Kirby's at our house my entire lifetime.

I've owned a Blue Max/Silver King vacuum for the last 10 years and LOVE IT. I just upgraded to the new powerhead and it's even better than ever.

I am glad that you are enjoying your upgraded Wessel-Werk-made power nozzle. It is much better than SK's older Douglas-made power nozzle.  The new nozzle is a better quality-made nozzle and is more aggressive at getting the deep down dirt.
