Well with July 4th sales this week, let's take a look at what's up for vacuums. First, the no shows and no goes: BEST BUY and Circuit City have nada for vacuums for sale for the week. Unusual? Yes, I'd say so. ORECK passed on the Sunday ads but continues to hit the weeklies with its XL Classic for $299. 3 year warranty, cordless iron, compact canister. And Dave dressed in an Uncle Sam's red white and blue top hat. Also announcing that North Las Vegas already the home to 2 ORECK Clean Home Centers will be opening a third soon. TARGET has its usual array of suspects and a newbie: The dyson lite DC18 for $469 and a free $50 Giftcard with purchase. I think TARGET will up that to $100 by Labor Day and trust me, there's no shortage of dyson vacuums on the shelves. (BTW, it appears that TARGET ads have not made amends for the recent ASA ruling ordering dyson to tone down its claim to shame: NEVER CLOGS, NEVER LOSES SUCTION. Wrong. And TARGET is still claiming it. Also added to the TARGET ads is the HOOVER Elite bagless upright (newbie for TARGET) at $129 and a free $20 TARGET Giftcard. The EUREKA Altima bagless uprigt for $75, Dirt Devil Featherlite bagless upright for $45 AND the Eureka Quick-up hand-stick vacuum for $24. KMart has the Kenmore bagless Quick-Clean for $69; the Kenmore bagged compact cann for $39 (BTW this cheapie has a cordwinder too); Dirt Devil bagless swift stick vacuum for $19; Dirt Devil rechargeable bagless broom for $44 and the Dirt Devil Easy Steamer for $89 with Carpet Shampoo free. KOHL's has 10-33 percent off on selected floorcare. Like the HOOVER EmPower for $79 and BISSELL Power Steamer for $99. Have to check local stores for sale brands, models, and discounts. Linens-n-Things has its 20 percent coupon good through July 22, 2007 including all dyson vacuums. LNT Web Site has the dyson DC21 Stowaway canister for $499 (plus free shipping) before 20 percent off and DC18 dyson-lite (plus free shipping) before 20 percent off. Pretty nice savings for all the dyson fawners. The 20 off has to have the big box store retailers like BEST BUY, Circuit City, and SEARS seeing "red." Literally. Why? Because it costs them in lost dyson sales unless of course they meet the lower prices which then costs them in lost profits. Looks like this week's Supreme Court ruling on retail price fixing isn't having any effect yet. And finally the week's winner: HOME DEPOT with the dyson DC14 All Floors for $429 and DC17 Absolute Animal for $549. What's so good about these items and prices? Well if you buy ANY DYSON FLOORCARE PRODUCT OVER $397 with the HOME DEPOT Credit Card (I have one doesn't everybody?) between June 28 and July 8, you receive a $100 Giftcard by mail in rebate to HOME DEPOT. And HD's dyson ad conforms to the ASA ruling: NO mention of NEVER CLOGS, NEVER LOSES SUCTION. Instead: HD ad says "most powerful upright for pet hair" for the DC17 Aboslute Animal and "easy trigger activated dust bin" for the DC14. I don't particularly like mail in rebates and Gift Cards--takes too long. And this is a repeat of a similar offer KOHL's had for dyson sales on Memorial Day vacuum purchases. The question I have is: Who pays for the Gift Card? KOHL's, HD, and/or dyson and/or both. The latter is something us old timers in the industry call "co-op." I'm betting it's the latter. Both pay a part and the mail-in-rebates are the paper trail HD (Kohl's) uses for dyson to ante up. There you have it. HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY and Birthday to the good ole USA. Carmine D.
