HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND and vacuum sales.

If you saw the recent 2 week 20 PERCENT OFF Lowe's vacuum sales advertisment (May 13-27, 2007) you note that of the  7 popular big box store models (5 brands), the model that was front and center leading all the rest in the "V" for victory parade (even the most expensive dysons) was the Electrolux (EUREKA) 16 pound Intensity bagged vacuum for $299 before discount (now dubbed Lightweight).  Don't tell me you missed that subtle nuance!

Well, Lowe's is continuing the 20 PERCENT OFF but ONLY on ELECTROLUX AND EUREKA models incluidng the Lightweight Electrolux Intensity (bagged).  As usual Lowe's is heads and shoulders above all the big box stores in presentation.  Giving consumers a Comparative Analyses of models in quick and easy to read chart form by surface cleaning, weight, cord length and warranty.  And the sale is valid May 27 thru June 3.  Conspicuously absent from the ad:  The prices.  Hummh?  Interesting!  The ad says see store for details.  Do I smell a bagless "dirty dyson rat?"  Maybe?

And the EUREKA BOSS SMARTVAC (bagged) shows the "Consumers Digest" BEST BUY annotation.

More to come.

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY:

The next best sale offering this Holiday Weekend is ORECK with ads in the dailies and Saturday papers.  With 50 percent off selected Oreck products, both vacuums and air cleaners.  This offer competes with the recent Oreck special for Humane Society members:  $149 for the XL Classic plus shipping.  BTW I ordered my 3rd in as many weeks.  My first ORECK XL purchase has been used almost daily (save an occasional HOOVER WT/ZEE usage to check on the Oreck) for over one month.  It has a half full bag and still going strong.  No loss of cleaning and grooming on the rugs and floors.  As Dave says: It is Amazing.

After these, it's down hill.  BEST BUY is a big disappointment.  One vacuum for advertised sale: The Eureka BAGGED Maxima upright for $39.

Dysons, save the old DC07 and DC14 models of years ago, at full MSRP at Circuit City, SEARS and HOME DEPOT.  Non-events.  Only one major big box retailer has a new dyson model advertised.  TARGET has the DC18 dyson-lite for $469.  No sale here.  Use a BBBY and LNT 20 percent coupon to get it for $375 if you have to have.  BTW, the LNT coupon is good thu 6/10/07.  And the ONE VACUUM advertised by LNT is the BISSELL HEALTHY HOME for $249.  AT 20 % off it's $200 which beats the TARGET Holiday sale price.

KMart and KOHL's has the usual aray of cheap bagless and bagged vacuums.  But nothing to waste your precious costly gas money over.

Kudos this week go to Lowe's again with honorable mention to ORECK.  B00 to the rest, save the BBBY and LNT with 20 percent off.

It's going to be an interesting summer for vacuum sales and prices.

That's all folks.

Hi Carmine,

How's it going?  I just checked out Best Buy online.  It had price reductions on several cleaners that might not bowl shoppers over but at least make the idea of buying more attractive.  Bissel's 5770, which has been "heavy rotation" via television ads, is now $225.  Price cuts of $40 or $50 may help some of the Dysons in stock appear more as actual merchandise than decor. Lots and lts of Dirt Devils, etc., for below $100 are also around to make less than choosy shoppers feel they've bought something.

Regards,

Venson

Hello Venson:

Doing well for an old retired man in Las Vegas.  Temp today topped out at 100 and my tan, according to my dear Wife, looks great with my white hair!

I've noticed, and you probably have too, that the bulk of the vacuums in the newspaper ads are the BISSELLS, Dirt Devils, Eurekas, HOOVERS, and Sears in the $100 and under prices.  More so than ever before.  If a high priced vacuum ($200 and more) is advertised, a cheapo is right along side.

Why?  Many reasons.  And you probably know them all.  Lowe's bucked the trend this week with the more expensive Electrolux (Eureka) line BUT a Eureka Altima bagless upright was right there along with.  And NO PRICES were advertised with the vacuums.  Shrewd?

The stores will get the vacuum customers in on the cheapo's and then have non-advertised higher priced models at substantial discounts from MSRP close by.  Hoping that the vacuum buyers will bite.  Possibly by using charge cards with no/low interest rates and/or no payments for 6 months to one year.  If this strategy doesn't work (and it may not), the retailers will come down as far as they can on the high priced models in order to move them off the shelves.  If these models still don't sell, they ain't going to be part of the store decor for Christmas time.  These models will get scrubbed from the shelves, sooner rather than later.  The higher the vacuum prices, the more likely these models will get taken off the store shelves.  Why?  To make room for more popular and quicker selling merchandise in today's economy.

SEARS has a 48 hour sale for Friday and Saturday, June 1 and 2.

Vacuums advertised: HOOVER Foldaway bagless for $59 (with SEARS card); Sears Kenmore Progressive bagged upright for $254 (good price) with SEARS card; Sears Kenmore bagged canister for $289 (closeout) and finally the dyson DC14 All Floors for $429.  But wait what's that it says for the dyson: "BEFORE IN-STORE SAVINGS."  Yes indeed, buyers should be seeing more of that language for dyson advertised sales in the months to come.  Dyson MAP is 10 percent.  So must be better than 10% if SEARS can't print.    Smiley

Kohl's has a one day sale on June 2, 7AM to 10 PM.  Save an extra 10 percent on all Floor care (and the prices are at MSRP, not marked above).

Advertised is the dyson DC07 (old and out-of-date) for $399. before the 10 percent off.  But wait, you recall I mentioned (see above) that Kohl's has a an EXTRA 15 percent off ON EVERYTHING on sale, regular and clearance priced merchandise in store and online.  Offer is valid May 23-June 6, 2007.  For Kohl's Charge purchases in store and on-line.

If you are one of a few dyson fans who still wants to buy the DC07, with 25 % off, that's $299 and with a 5 year warranty.  (Looks like Kohl's is giving eBay some price competition on new dysons).  And no quantity limits.  Buy as many as you like.  Give them away for gifts.

If the side trailer on WTBV is correct, it looks like another retailer is jumping on the dyson 20-30 percent off sales bandwagon.  Must have heard about the ASA ruling against dyson and wants to sell out before the word spreads.  No Loss of Suction is a big loss of money.  Wink

Wonder how long dyson has to remove the false claims:  "No clogged filters means no loss of suction" before it gets smacked with a six figure fine?  Or will it be retroactive back to 2002.  I seem to recall Oreck challenging dyson for making this false claim too!  You go Dave.

What do you know?  And only $2.95 for shipping.  With a 5 year warranty.

Caught a glimpse of the HSN HOOVER demo on the HOOVER FloorMate.  Looks like over 6000 were sold in one day.  Great price too: The latest and greatest with all the attachments and cleaners and Xtra filter for $150.  Best price in town.

Now onto the weekly vacuum sales.  Interesting week due to the adverse decision against dyson for its false claims: Never clogs, never loses suction.  Apparently 36 dyson users disagreed and filed complaints for false claims in advertising.

BEST BUY has no vacuums advertised for sale.  A complete no show no go.  Unusual for BB.  No Memorial Day vacuum specials to
speak of, and still the Memorial Day week after and no vacuums.  Could it be that it had wind of the dyson ruling and wants to get a legal opinion before going back with its dyson ads?  Could be.

KOHL's has the DC16 Hand Held for $149.  Dud.

Circuit City has the HOOVER Elite rewind for $99, a CC staple.  The BISSELL Healthy Home for $249.  Another CC staple.  And the dyson DC14 for $429.  With the now infamous dyson claim to shame: No clogging; No loss of suction.  Wrong thinking here so says the Advertising Standards Authority in its ruling against dyson.  36 dyson users challenged the claims and ASA upheld their position.  Told dyson to clean up its act or get punished.  Apparently dyson is slow to do so and get the word out to its "small time" dyson retailers. Even TARGET is guilty of the evil: Advertising the DC17 Absolute Animal for $549 with the bold face lie: Never loses suction (as Jimmy P/OT says: If you add: "For a little while" it makes the statement true .

No such lies from KMart which doesn't advertise dysons for sale.  Instead it has the usual array of bagless uprights (Sears Kenmore) and Dirt Devil canister for $89.  And the HOOVER WT bagless for $159.

The week's winner again is Lowe's with a nice layout for vacuum sales: Including the DC18 for $469; the iRobot for $199; Shop Vac for $49; the DC16 Hand Held for $149.  Pitted right up against the DC16 is the Black and Decker Pivot Nose for $59 (talked about alot on this Forum).  To Lowe's credit it hasn't used the misleading and false dyson claims in many many months.  Instead Lowe's chooses to give the vital specs (like weight, cord length, warranty, and this week prices again too) and let the buyers decide without all the manufacturers' hyping and hawking.

And finally can't forget my old-time favorite: Oreck.  No dailies this week.  Strictly Sunday.  In the Smart Source supplement with all the vendors' discounts and sales.  The Womens' favorite sales section of the newspaper.  Full page color ad.  For the Oreck XL Deluxe.  With a lovely lady hugging her Oreck XL.  And Dave relined on a couch.  As Dave says: "Don't sweat it.  My Oreck XL Deluxe does all the work so you don't have to."  Right on Dave.  Now that's an example of truth in advertising and right thinking.  You go old school Dave.

That's all folks.

KOHL's does it again with pre-Summer sales.  Renews its 15-20-30 percent off on everything using the Kohl's Charge card from June 7-12, 2007.  Included are floor care items including .............yes you guessed it dyson vacuums.  Advertised are the DC07 All Floors for $399 and DC17 Absolute Animal for $549.  Both prices before the discounts.  And no claim to shame.  No mention of the 5 year old dyson lie:  NEVER CLOGS NEVER LOSES SUCTION.  See local stores for sale items and sale prices.  The discounts are good with regular, sale, and clearance priced merchandise.  Same as previous sale.  So what happened with the dyson MAP?
