So you wouldn't buy the 56 inch Toshiba for $1600?

HS:

After I messaged you this morning I learned from newsreports that the products disclosed in the WSJ article I quoted were "leaked" prematurely according to Wal*Mart sources.  These items were supposed to be part of Wal*Mart's black Friday (day after Thanksgiving) sale and not before.  I verified that information with recent Wal*Mart sales catalogues and mailings.  These items are not included for sale between Nov 12-19.  Interesting?

It's weekly vacuum cleaner sales time and BEST BUY featured the ALL new BISSELL Healthy Home bagless on a quarter page ad.  Added to the usual cyclonic suction adjectives, like non-stop suction and removes dirt and allergens from ALL surfaces, is a new bite: "Helps purify the air while you vacuum" while Microban Antimicrobial Protection and AirTight HEPA filtration help keep indoor air fresher and cleaner.  $299

Dyson's DC16 gets an honorable mention with a "NEW" moniker for $149.

Also sale priced is the BISSELL ProHeat 2x for $199.  This is the rug cleaner that does heat the water 25 degrees hotter.

With HOOVER offering the $100 savings on two floorcare purchases now through January 2007 at partcipating retailers (see the HOOVER website), maybe BISSELL will do the same?

Both SEARS and Target stores feature the DC17 Absolute Animal for $549.  Just like the BEST BUY ad from last week, this new dyson (aka the greater dyson) looks like the same old DC14 for $459.  Will customers be confused?  The ads don't help.  DC14 and DC17 sound and look the same.  Dyson: Here's a bit of marketing advice:  If you wanna sell the DC17 Absolute you gotta tell people why the DC17 is worth the additional $90 over the DC14.  If not, they ain't gonna know.  Target adds the DC16 too.  And SEARS the Roomba Scheduler for $299.  SEARS also features its "Progressive canister for $379 with the advice: Consider a canister.  Why not?  SEARS sells over 25 percent of the new canisters sold each year.  And this one boys and girls has a HEPA cloth bag for true HEPA filtration.

And let's not leave out Bed Bath and Beyond with 20 percent off any item thru Dec 4, 2006.  BUT NOT ORECK.

And speaking of ORECK, Mr. Dave Oreck, the most recognized face of vacuum cleaners, has his own ad in the Sunday coupon section.  But a full pager including the svelte looking octogenarian and his famous 8 pound vacuum cleaner.  The old-timers and me were just saying that like your vacuum you haven't aged much in over 40 years.  It must be the clean living.  God Bless you.

Circuit City is still selling the same old same old.  Dyson DC07 All Floors and Animal for $399 and $499 PLUS a $50 Gift Card with purchase.  Trying hard to cull the old dyson stock.

Same with the HOOVER WT bagless for $159 before a $25 Gift Card and BISSELL ProHeat for $249 plus a $25 Gift Card.

Linens 'N THings also has the old dyson stock on sale: DC07 Animal for $499 and DC15 Ball All Floors for $499 BEFORE the 20 percent off.  Will these old first and second generation dyson models ever make room for the new third generation DC17?  I sure hope so.  Also on sale is the Roomba Scheduler for $329 before the 20 percent off.

That's all folks.

If ol Dave cut is advertising budget by 50% and stopped giving free gifts just to make a sale he could sell his $99 for $99. Of course I still would not want one.

Hey Hardsell:

Old Dave as you call him is a business role model for dyson.  I hear tell that James and dyson is the David ORECK of the 21st Century.

Well HS, the old days are gone (unfortunately) but their are some people still around who remember these days.  These persons know that the old days provided almost 45 years of business success in the USA vacuum market to David Oreck and his 8 pound upright.  AND Oreck carved out a niche vacuum market for lightweight vacuums that provide full sized vacuum performance.  AND Oreck maintained this stronghold on the market all this time and still, despite the competition.  Anyone that demeans this accomplishment and impugns the company not only doesn't know their vacuum history but is also "full of hot air." Wink

I watched Ole Dave's infomercial about 5 am today.  Among other things he compared Oreck to bagless.  He shows a DCO7 in use then shows a bagless bin being emptied.  It actually looks like an open top plastic container and dust fills the air.  The bin is definitely not off a DC07.  I have no problem with honest comparisons.  I do have a problem with deceptive advertising.  Of course he is famous for deceipt.
He further states that the XL21 will clean as good for decades as it does when new.  I believe this since it does only a mediocre job when new.
I bet Dave's ancestors sold snake oil on the prarie.  Some accomplishments should not be glorified, no matter how historical.

BTW, the new Oreck factory in TN is only a short drive away.  Maybe I should vist them to see how they get the smole and mirrors in those vacs.

Hey HS:

Glorify?  No.  Respect?  Yes.  He's earned it.

I watched the dyson video several months ago.  It had little to no dirt in the bin when it was dumped.  The user slowly allowed the dirt to cascade down the bin into the waste basket.  As soon as a dust cloud appeared, the video panned away.

I guarantee you that if you visit the Oreck factory in Tennessee you will be uplifted by the pride of the Oreck workers and the love for their jobs.  AND their respect and admiration for Dave, not just as a business man and their employer but as a person.  Guarantee.

There's alot of positive things about a home grown product.  Americans today are so globally focused that we forget this.  Many don't even care anymore.  Ah, the good old days.  If I knew they wouldn't last forever, I would have tried to remember harder.   cry
