Well, so much for: "That's all folks."

My dear Wife and daughter pointed out to me that the main section of the Sunday newsprint in LV has a Bed Bath & Beyond discount coupon good for 20 percent off on ANY item through Nov 13, 2006.  But look at the fine print.  Excluded are ORECK and MIELE. Valid for in-store use only.

And as my two lovely ladies reminded me BB&B WILL MATCH any competitor's price.

Wal*Mart Stores Inc.

Discounting Increases With Cuts on Consumer Electronic Items

"Wal*Mart Stores Inc stepped up its discounting ahead of the holiday season with price cuts on almost 100 electronics that focused on high definition TVs, cellphones and digital cameras.  The news came after the Bentonville, Ark., retailer announced disappointing October sales and a lackluster November outlook.  The discounts are effective through Dec 31.  They include such items as Panasonic 42 inch HD plasma TVs, cut to $1294 from $1794; Polaroid LCD HDTVs, reduced to $997 from $1297; and Cingular C139 prepaid phones, marked down to $19.97 from $29.98.  The discounts on electronics follow Wal*Mart's move in mid-October to cut prices on more than 100 holiday toys, which the company said is already resulting in a "significant lift in unit volume."  The move seemed likely to be more bad news for electronics rivals such as BEST BUY Co. and Circuit City stores Inc.  Analysts predict slower sales growth this year for the consumer-electronics industry as prices of items such as flat panel TV sets drop."

PS added by poster:  Unlike most retailers, BEST BUY, Circuit City and Home Depot are among the large retailers who do not post monthly sales data.  These companies post quarterly sales info only.

Wal mart is not the leader in reduction of electornics pricing.  All electronics prices drop drastically this time of year.  New models will be introduced in the coming weeks and old inventory must go.  I was offered a 56" HDTV for $1600 on Sunday.  Retail is $3800.   Wal Mart focuses on entry level TV's also.  The Panasonic that you are referring to is $1200 at one of the leading audio/video stores.

If I may ask, and feel free not to say if you prefer, which retailer offered to sell a 56 (inch?) HDTV for $1600, what was the brand and was it new in a box and/or floor model?  I assume that the $1600 price on the HDTV does not include installation and/or extended warranty.

Tweeter was the store.  Toshiba DLP TV.  It is a new TV transfered to my local store from NC.  It was removed from the box about a week ago for display with other close out items.  They can sell items for less if removed from the box.  I was at the same store yesterday and it was not turned on.  This is the best time of year to buy electronics.  Price is for TV only.  Warranty is $300 (3 yrs) or $500 (5 yrs).  Five year warranty covers bulbs.
Delivery is usually $50.  I would perform installation even if the offered it for free.

56 inch is an odd size for HDTV.  It's not a standard size for the industry today.  My 50 inch installation was a little tricky because it came with a DVR.  The connections were done wrong by the retailer's installer AND the cable technician on the first go around.  I have an LG plasma HD (which the Pulte builder is now gifting with the purchase of these houses) and it is wonderful.  I'll never go back to the other.  BTW if you install yourself, truly yourself, and not a recognized expert, the retailer and/or maker MAY NOT warranty.

Where are you getting your info?  56" is not uncommon for a DLP set.  Samsung Panasonic, RCA and Toshiba offer 56" models.  Installing a cable DVR is very simple.  I have cable and satellite.  I chose to install the satellite because I know of too many installations like you experienced.  Is it too late to exchange the LG for a Panasonic? Plasmsa is nice for aesthetics but for picture quality I would choose DLP or SXRD technology.  Self install has no effect on warranty.  Recognized experts are the same in all fields.  Many are no more knowledgable that the home owner.  Just because you earn a living performing a job does not make you an expert.

So you wouldn't buy the 56 inch Toshiba for $1600?
