I mentioned recently that Circuit City is seriously considering adding vacuum cleaners BACK in their stores and possibly central vacuums.

The reason I was told: To increase store traffic AND beat the big box stores to the market with CVS which are gaining in use and popularity.

HOOVER gets the PARADE feature for Memorial Day sales thanks to SEARS and HOOVER also gets most of the other weekend and holiday hardware and retail store ads too.

It's the weekend and time to look at the newspaper sales for vacuums.

And once again, HOOVER is the big winner starting with the premier Parade space thanks once again to SEARS.  But this week with a new twist:  The HOOVER WindTunnel Bagged Self-Propelled comes with 3m Fitrete bags.  Add to the line up, HOOVER's other popular selling products: The SteamVac and FloorMate. Murderers' Row of floorcare products for the home.

Two of these HOOVER products get BEST BUY's nod for the week's vacuum advertisement too.  Along with a new entrant: The Panasonic Bagless Xcelerator.  And dyson fans still time to buy a leftover DC07 for the discounted price of $369.99.  Already over 4 years old and still around (leftover from Wal*Mart).

But wait, what's this.  LOWES has added two new HOOVER uprights to its vacuum venue: The HOOVER Z for $398 and the HOOVER Elite for $99.97 (with a cordwinder and turbo tool) plus the old reliable WindTunnel for $158.  A HOOVER vacuum for every floor.  Sorry dyson fans, no dysons advertised.  But a big "YES" to EUREKA, ELECTROLUX, and BISSELL.

Another weekend surprise: The Consumer Reports award winning Kenmore Direct Drive "bagged" is advertised at KMart for $279.99 along with a line up of other Kenmore uprights and canisters.  A KMart first. And don't forget to look for the usual venue of Kenmore vacuums in the SEARS ads too along with:  HOOVER again sporting the two favorites: The Windtunnel self-propelled bagged and SteamVac: 2/3 of the Murderers' Row.  Sorry dyson fans, no dysons.

And finally before leaving LOWES with HOOVER starry eyes, take a look at the array of SHOP*VACS advertised on sale in the newspaper.  Not one, not two, not three but FIVE different models and one is a 2 in 1.  Prices range from $29.98 to $100.  Obviously FATHER'S DAY is close by and what father doesn't want a SHOP*VAC! And what's this: CHOICES: Quiet motors, 20 foot cords, built in water pumps, heavy duty cleaning with portability, blower ports.... and more.

Almost forgot TARGET which also features the HOOVER line this week.  Sorry fans, no dysons advertised at TARGET this week.

Oh my gosh!  How did I sleep through this one . . .

Carmine, how long have Kenmore vacs been advertising by way of K-Mart?  I have never seen a "Sears" vacuum sell this way before.  Alas, alas, is Sears dying too?

More evidence of Hoover hitting bottom.  Being # 1 in sales like Dyson means that you can spend more on R & D and less on advertising.

BTW,  How does Hoover afford all those ads when they are broke?

Hello Venson:

This subject has been discussed on the Forum but only in passing.  KMart annouced its plans to buy and merge with SEARS in 2005 and the deal was consummated in 2006.  The new company is called SEARS Holdings (and the stock of KMART which was already a high flyer doubled from $75 to $150 today).

With the merge, KMART has been assimilating the SEARS product line including vacuums.  Apparently the KMART move to high end product lines is working.  And the reason in part Wal*Mart is following suit and adding high end merchandise to its venue (IMHO).

Now who is confused?

Those HOOVER ads are paid for by the retailers not HOOVER.  (Unlike another brand you like so much which may pay for the retailers' ads and when it does dictates the terms).  Obviously you have the two confused.

Hi Carmine,

Thanks.  I do remember hearing about it but didn't think much of it at the time or about the after effect.  I shop Sears all the time but never set foot in K-Mart.

Regards,

So you do not believe that Hoover subsidises advertising.  Greedy pigs.
