Older model Toro
Original Message   Jan 17, 2005 10:20 am
Dear Sirs,

Been thinking of leaving my 8/26 (1979) snowthrower outside and chained. Would I have to put a special oil in it ? Furthermore what would be the big disadvatages ?(It now has a cozy place in my garage)

Thanks

Jim

Welcome Toroman,

Use synthetic oil, keep fuel stabilizer in your gas and keep your tank full, keep all of your cables and parts that could potentially corrode, lubed real good as well. I would also keep it covered if I were you.

I left my older Sears machine under a deck for my fist year in my house ( No Shed). Only problem was a partially frozen recoil, and a frozen auger once, easily remedied.  Put a cheap tarp over it and save a few headachs, just wait a few minutes for it to COOL OFF before throwing plastic on it.

Cosmetically my Honda has aged tremendously in appearance due to doing this very thing to it.  I regret it but had no choice.  If given a choice I would never do it again.
