Help; New Simplicity 755M - Museum Piece? Price?
Original Message   Jan 4, 2009 9:30 am
Hello! Newbie here. New to this snow scene too having just moved to the Northeast from a warmer climate. I've pretty much decided going the route of a walk-behind blower versus a front blade on the Deere due to expense and convenience. I've looked at several walk-behinds and for my modest needs the Simplicity looks well put together for the money.

I have my eye on a new Simplicity that the dealer claims is a model 755M. That's fine, however I can't seem to find ANY information on the 755 models either "E" or "M".  I've done both the Internet search and in this forum as well. The only info I can find is out on the Simplicity website and it appears from their posted manuals this model hasn't been made since the turn of the century (around 2000)! I'm thnking that can't be right.......what am I missing?? I'm okay with picking up a new prior year blower if it's a solid machine and the price is right. I just need to be able to blow wet snow a few times a year.

This dealer was very helpful and spent a lot of time with me going through all of the ins and outs of snowblowing. I noted too that the sales borchure he handed me has a model i7524e listed as the closest match to what was on the showroom floor. Finally, the sale price is $999 plus tax lubed and delivered. Good deal or not???

Sorry for being long winded. I plan on calling the dealer back this week with this concern, but any feedback is appreciated. Thanks!

The 755M is Simplicity model#1693982. In the manual I saw on line it said that the document had been revised in 2003. It describes the unit as a medium frame 2 stage. The M stands for manual start and indicates the unit with the M designation was for export. That doesen't mean it wasn't used domesticaly just that the E model wasn't exported because of the starter being 110 volts.

The interesting thing is that the catalog lists two possible engines. An ohv Briggs and a L-head Tecumseh. If the unit you are looking at is the Briggs I would consider that an advantage.

The 755E has the model #1693983.

If it has a differential or remote wheel disconnect feature and is the Briggs powered unit I think $999 is a top dollar price. It certainly isn't a bargain as even though new it is a discontinued model of 5 or more years. If it were Tecumseh powered I wouldn't consider it at all unless he made me an offer in the $600 range. It's not that I don't like Tecumseh but they just went out of the Engine business.

For a$1000 dollars I would be looking at current production units of the Simplicity,Snapper,John Deere,Toro or Ariens Brands.

Thanks Marc. It appears I missed that manual. I've just got to get the straight scoop from the Dealer on this. I'll ask him to read off the mfg number and model# on Monday. I'm pretty sure the dealer said the engine is a B&S , but it appears the manual also references an OHV Tecumseh.

So here's a theory that's bouncing around in my head; I'm wondering if the dealers up here (Eastern, PA) have sold out of their current model year inventories (this is probably a popular size for this area) and are breaking out prior year left overs and charging full price? Heck, I haven't been up here long enough to know how this works.

Thanks again to all for your feedback.

Here’s a web site that had information on the 755M and even sells parts.

Excellent. This is the first spec sheet I've seen. I noticed there appears to be a extra "5" in their listed model number. I wonder if that's been my problem - the dealer left out a "5". I see this Operators Manual is dated 2005. It also lists the engine as a only B&S for the OHV. Getting closer to current........Thanks!

Daequitz-  Be cautiousIf it's a Tecumseh  - The 2003 Manual references an L-head Tecumseh which is not an OHV. Not an issue if it is Briggs powered.

In addition look carefully at  the SEPW advertisement- in addition to using an extra 5 they also tell you to call for current models and pricing as well. I wouldn't be shocked to find they don't have a 755 for sale although I may be overly cautious/cynical.

Yes, it should be 7555M.  Here are two more sites with mostly the same information, but they also have the list price.

This just gets better and better. Finally, I've got a list price to compare to as a point of reference. Well,  I've got a running list of questions for the dealer. There may be a sound explanation and rationale for all of this. Regardless, this thread has been a huge help. I suppose I'm learning as I go. +++++++

Re: Help; New Simplicity 7555M - Good Price? What's Electric Start Worth?

Okay, got the skinny from the dealer today on the aforementioned Blower. It's a 7555M (model 1694836).  After further discussion, he knocked the price down to $929. Couldn't get him to throw in an hour meter.

Sooooo, and perhaps I should start a new thread with this question; As I found a newer model I924E across town for $999 do you think it's worth the extra $70 to have the electric start? That's really the only big diff I see. Do you guys really rely on/use your electric start???

Thanks!

I have an Ariens for four years and have never used it. one or two pulls on the rope start and shes purring.I think my snowblower has a  pressure release valve which is great so theres no pulling out your shoulder to get it started.

$929 seems pricey to me. A 10" impeller, 12" rakes, small displacement engine (205cc), 13" tires... Kind of a scrawny little thing for that much money. There are machines with much more substance available in the ~$1000 range.... Anywhere really.

I agree.  That's a $700.00 machine at best.   Simplicity must have hired the marketing director from Toro to sell that model.  More name than machine....
