Swapped newer Toro for older Ariens....

I just swapped a 3-year-old Toro 1128 OXE for an Ariens 1332LE (924128)...because I wanted/needed a larger machine. Can anyone date this Ariens? It appears to have very little usage (scraper blade is almost unmarked, chute has just a few marks). The Toro is a great machine, but I really need the extra size. Well??? Did I just blow it???? Go ahead, I can take it...

While we're on the subject... is there a consensus on the necessity of getting in the impeller housing with a wire brush/sandpaper and touch-up paint? I did that last year and it was a pain. And of course, much of that work from last year is already worn off by this year's record snowfall here in SE Wisconsin. I can't disagree with Borat on this, it's just too much trouble - and almost impossible without pulling the impeller. I just spray mine with some CLP*, even my MTD RustMagnet(TM) holds up well with just that. *Break-Free CLP, meant for firearms: Clean-Lubricate-Protect. Available at sporting goods stores and even some Walmarts. I stopped using WD40. Link: http://www.break-free.com/products/products_breakfreeclp.asp?catalog=industrial

Also, this model (and most 924,XXX models preceding it) are known to be on the fast side in first gear. 5 minutes and a metal lathe could possibly slow this down if needed.
Could you please elaborate ? My 9526DLE is also too fast in first gear. What can be turned, the engine pulley ? Paul
