1987 Toro 521 Belt Adjustment ?
Original Message   Oct 1, 2008 2:09 pm
I just replaced both Belts on a toro 521. Is the finger ( Bar) that sitts to the side of the Pully off the Engine for both belts just a Guard ? Or is it supposed to keep tension on the Belt Or Belts?

On my machine, there are two "fingers" that are on opposite sides of the top pulley. I believe their function is to keep the belt from contacting the pulley when the tension is off. When the tensioner is in the "off" position, the belt goes slack, and the two fingers keep the belt from wearing on the spinning pulley.

Contents under pressure....

the finger keeps the belt from coming off the pulley when relaxed (auger disengaged) so no it doesnt keep tension on the belt.
