Last year I never did get my Honda HS35 up to snuff. It still only runs when chocked, and when you take it off choke the idle surges and dies, surges and dies and will not run at high speed.

I tried cleaning the carb, But I did not know what I was doing 100% so I may have missed some parts to clean.

I really want to get it going this year so any help, and/or websites would help greatly.

I just went through a similar problem this weekend with a 11hp leaf blower.Took the carb apart and cleand it very well with a briggs carb cleanr and cleaned all the small holes with a fine wire to make sure all was covered.Put it back together and still it would'nt run .(I did not move any of the adjustment screws )I was about to give up when I thought that maybe the problem is in the area of the gas cut off/filter which is original from the mfg.So there I went and found the small sump was full of white sludge which was blocking the filter screen.I Cleaned that very well and put it back together and now it runs very well.I'll just remove the tank when it runs dry and clean it as well because it clogged a second time during the day meaning the tank has some junk floating about.Best of luck,Allan H

I've only done two or three HS35 carbs, but I do remember a bunch of gaskets are used to seal the carb plate, carb & intake. If any of these gaskets are bad, you will also get a lean surge that you describe. If a thorough carb cleaning doesn't correct the surging, get the engine running again & spray starting fluid near the gaskets - if the RPM smooths out while spraying the fluid near a gasket, that particular gasket is bad & needs replacing. Whats happening is that there is an air leak which in turn is causing a lean fuel condition.

I think I am going to check out the gas feed line. I just want to make sure that it is not obstructed, and gas is flowing fine, I don't think I have checked this portion yet.

As for the gaskets, I had made new ones. I was having a hard time finding some premade ones, so I bought that gasket maker kit and made some myself, because the original ones fell apart as soon as I removed the carb last year. I think it was 2 gaskets. One between the carb and head, and the other between the intake hood and carb.

Ok I took the carb off tonight. seems the gas is just fine. I opened the gas shut off with the hose dangling by itself and the gas dripped out at a consistant pace indicating good fuel delivery so I can check that off.

I did notice one of the gasket sealing the spacer between the carb and head was old and crusty so I will be making a new one from gasket material.

I am attaching some pictures of the carb for reference if it rings a bell for anyone. I am trying to remove that screw in the long middle tube, but it doesn't want to come out all the way? It unscrews to about 1/4" from the opening then just spins and doesn't back out anymore...does it come out?
