Ariens 8526LE won't throw snow

I was using my snow thrower today. It was working fine. I shut it off to brush off my car. Then I restarted it and went to move some more snow. But once I got into the snow pile it would not throw the snow. So I backed up, shut it off, and cleaned out the auger. Then I started it again and engaged the auger. The auger was rotating, but once I got back into the snow pile it stopped turning again. The shear pins aren't broken. Does anyone have an idea what could be wrong? It is only a year old.
