Maintenance note: The winter oil (Citgo 5w30) came out of the lawn tractor today and the summer oil (Pennzoil straight 30) went in. I actually mowed four times with the winter oil in it and didn't notice any oil consumption at all. But it hasn't been all that warm, either. The oil was dirtier than I expected with only about 6-7 hours of operation on it. Am going to change it again in July. At my present location, neither seed, feed nor sod is an option...so my lawn consists of whatever God provides. If allowed to grow unchecked, it would become a meadow with only wild grass, sand burrs and dandelions. We had a bumper crop of those yellow things this year. After mowing them down as fast as practicable, I've been wandering the yard multiple times every evening plucking out the ones I missed with the mower before they can go to seed. The neighbors must think I've lost it. I've even been grabbing at the floaters as they fly by. But I think it has helped. At least I'm getting some exercise. AZ

After 6 years of maintaining other folks lawns and applying whatever chemicals, lotions and potions they wanted, to hopefully provide the lush green monotone carpet of grass they desired (at great expense for them), my lawn is much more natural. I don't feed, chemically kill, or seed, just cut what is there. I'm sure in 10 or 15 years, the last of the stuff that is probably still in my body will finally be gone, my lawn and the critters that live in it and on it seem to be happy and healthy. I enjoy watching the rabbits eat the clover, the birds that snack on the wild strawberries, and the various flowers that bloom in the spring before first cutting. Your method of dandelion control makes more sense to me than spraying $$$$$$ of chemicals all over the place that eventually end up in your drinking water, inside your pets, and in you.
