Re: Snow blower vs Lawn tractor with blower attachment?

I think it would depend on what size area you need to clear. I use a tractor mounted unit, because I don't want to be outside for hours. A driveway 100 feet long or less would probably be better cleared with a walk behind unit.

These clear hoods are not listed on Deere parts, so you can't just order one from Deere as a replacement. I'd be curious as to how this one became available.
Re: Do you want a "new" old tractor?

Actually that's what the bidding closed at, but the reserve wasn't hit on either machine. I could see the lawn tractor being worth around $1000 to $1500, but the garden tractor hitting 3 grand should have sold in my opinion. Yeah it's nice to find a never used old machine, but as mentioned above, a new Deere or Cub could be had for the same money without the problems of getting parts.
Re: gravel drives and skid shoes

I fthe gravel is loose, the problem with throwing rocks is much worse. If it is solidly compacted, the snowblower will pick up a lot less, but still be careful as it takes only one stone to take out an expensive window. Not being familiar with your snowblower, I don't know if the addition of wider shoes will help, or if your unit has enough adjustment on it's own, but doing a gravel driveway does have it's own technique.
