Sizing up your stove

If you are replacing a stove, make sure you measure the opening carefully. Free standing ranges generally measure 30 inches wide, but can vary from 20 inches (think apartments or rec rooms) to 40 inches and plop into a cavity in the cabinetry or at the end of a counter. It is important to measure as a quarter of an inch can spell disaster.
