Hello Chris:

Didn't Amazon initially rate the DC16 hand held it's best selling floorcare product?  There is even an industry expression for the sales practice:  It's called "pump" and "dump."  Overinflate the praise, sell the product out and then get out.  Who gets hurt?  The trusting buyers.  Caveat Emptor.

The real product truth comes 6-9 months after the launch and new purchases.  Then the real buyers and users are finally heard.  Too late to keep the big box retailers from getting the profits.

Dyson is offering $50 mail-in-rebates on the purchase of any dyson upright valid May 6-15, 2007 in stores only.  Check local retailers and see rebate form for details.

Carmine,

I could not find anything about the rebate on the Dyson Website, or on the websites of Target, LNT, BBB or Sears....

Where did you find out about the rebate?

Thanks in advance,
Dan

Hello Dan:

Try KOHL's Stores.

LNT and BBB are sparse and non-existent with new dyson models.  I haven't seen the DC17, DC18 and/or DC21 advertised by either of them yet.  I don't know if they even carry them yet.  I think the 20 percent off coupon by these retailers on dyson products may have strained dyson business relations with these chains.   Maybe some one else who knows will share the latest developments.  (Matt mmc you still lurking?).

Hi Carmine,

All of the LNT & BBB stores near me have the DC16, DC17, DC18, & DC21 - I will have to stop by at lunch and see if any of them have the form in the stores -

They usually post all the rebate forms on boards at the front of the store, so I will check... If I can't find the forms at BBB or LNT I will stop by Kols.

I know that Target has the Dc16, DC17, & DC18 on the shelves and will check there if I find nothing at the other three...

Thank you for your help,
Dan

Hello Dan:

My pleasure.  LNT received the same criticism as Circuit City: Old stock and no new models for sale.  The last LNT dyson sale I saw advertised was the end of 2006 and it was for all vacuum makes and models (about 24 floorcare products) WITH the typical 20 percent off.  It featured the DC14 (an old model, no DC16 and no DC17 which were several months old at the time of the advertised sale) with the 20 percent off AND a $50 Gift card (just on the DC14).  The DC07 All Floors and Animal also shown for $399 and $499 before the 20% off.  The sale also included no interest payments for 6 months on all vacuum purchases of $200/more.  Maybe this was a way to clear out the DC07 and DC14 stock before loading up on the DC17.

I can't recall a recent BBB dyson sale advertised either.  It could be the difference in coasts for the stores and brands too.  But I would have thought with the new dyson launch, and Easter, both retailers would have advertised dyson sales.  Target, Sears, Kohl's, BEST BUY, even Circuit City have.  Not LNT and BBB.  Maybe one of the dyson insiders/experts can shed more light on the subject.

Good luck on your quest.  Personally and professionally, I may buy the DC18 but not for $469 and/or $419.  If I can secure for 20 percent off and a $50/100 Giftcard too, I may take the plunge and splurge for the high price.  Forget the DC21.  Too much price and too little to offer.   Same with the DC16.

A couple of sales still going and/or in effect.  KOHL's is wrapping up its last 3 days of a sale, Thursday, Friday and Saturday May 3-5.  A couple of worthy considerations: The HOOVER WT Supreme for $119 before $20 HOOVER Mail-in rebate.  $99.  A buy.  I paid $150 in August 2006.

And the BISSELL ProHeat 2X for $229 before $20 Mail-in rebate.  BISSELL's top of the line deep cleaner.

SEARS has a two day sale for Friday and Saturday.  The usual suspects: Dirt Devil bagged upright for $39; Kenmore bagged canister for $39; Kenmore Progressive bagged canister for $249: The Red model; Kenmore Quickclean bagless upright for $89 with a retractable cord and finally one of HOOVER's dream team: The SteamVac with Spinscrub for $179.

Shop and save.

Two more retailers with sales:

For Mother's Day, Sunday May 13, Wal*Mart has the BISSELL PowerTrak Cyclonic bagless upright for $89. (May 6-12).

Frys Electronics (for Friday May 4-Tuesday May 8) is selling the Eureka Maxima 3 Quart No Touch Dust bag system upright for $44.  This model weighs about 13 pounds.

Don't forget Mother's Day (which comes before Father's Day).  Wink

If you can't find a vacuum on sale this week for Mother's Day you're not looking.

Sales here, sales there, sales everywhere, especially on dyson vacuums.

KOHL's has the $50 mail-in rebate on any full size dyson upright, INCLUDING the lightweight DC18 Slim Wink , and the prices are the regular MSRP not the inflated MSRP.  So the DC07 All Floors is $399 (before rebate); DC18 is $469 (before rebate) and the DC17 Absolute Animal is $549 (before rebate).

Get's better.  A familiar brand this week among the big box retailers (along with dyson) is the iRobot.  Not to be outdone on Mother's Day by an ordinary human powered vacuum, iRobot and just about all the big box retailers are offering a 2 for 1 special.  Buy the Rhoomba Discovery (iRobot's top of the line) for $279 at KOHL's and get the iRobot Dirt Dog (by mail) free.  That's a $130 MSRP product.

But there's more from KOHL's.  HOOVER, BISSELL and Rug Doctor rug cleaners on sale.  Dirt Devil Kone Hand Held.  BISSELL Spot Bot (look for the rebate too).  And the BISSELL Healthy Home bagless upright and HOOVER WT 2 bagless Surface Command for $249 (look for the BISSELL rebate).

TARGET is offering a $75 GIFTCARD free with the purchase of selected dyson vacuums: DC07 $399; DC14 Drive $459; DC07 Animal $499; and the DC17 Absolute Animal for $549.

BEST BUY let's you down: DC07 for $399 (BUT before savings).  What does this mean?  Have to go into the store to see.  And the Eureka bagged Maxima for $39 (3 quart no touch dust bag system).

Circuit City too has the iRobot special offer.  Buy the Discovery for $279 and get the Dirt Dog for free.  The DC07 Animal for $499 before 10 percent savings; one of the HOOVER dream team products, the All Terrain for $299 before 10 percent savings and the BISSELL bagless Clean View for $99 before 10 percent off.

Not done yet.  Just getting started.  Linens-N-Things has the iRobot offer too.  But the Scheduler and Scooba for $299 and the free Dirt Dog.  And don't forget the 20 percent off coupon.  But wait: dysons on sale too: DC07 All Floors and Animal $399 and $499 before 20 % off AND includes free the 3 piece attachment kit: flex crevice tool, oval utility brush, and matress tool.

SEARS get's into the vacuum sale too with the iRobot offer, DC14 Complete $429 (CLOSEOUT which means let's make a deal); DC18 Slim $469; HOOVER Foldaway $59; Kenmore bagged progressive cann for $249; and Kenmore Magic Blue cann for $79.

KMart too with the Eureka Boss Superlite for $39, bagged Kenmore cann for $39; Dirt Devil Dynamite bagless upright for $44; Dirt Devil Vision bagless cann for $89 and HOOVER STeam Vac Spin Scrub for $179.

ORECK passed up the Sunday sales.  BUt huge ad in the Saturday main section for the XL Ultra top of the line.  Cordless iron. 5 pound Super Deluxe Compact canister. Cordless Hand vacuum. 10 year warranty (it will last 30); 10 free annual services; and 30 day risk free trial.

Fry's Electronics has the HOOVER Elite for $79.

Conspicuously missing from the dyson sales this week: DC14 All Floor and Animal models, DC15 Ball models, and also absent are the NEW DC21 Stowaway cann (must be stowed away some where) and 9 month old DC16 Hand Held.  Which reminds me:  I think I know the fate of the DC16 and found another use for it.  Free giveaway with the purchase of a new dyson.  Thank you iRobot for a clever marketing idea.

So who wins this week's sale venue?  Dyson? iRobot? Serious contenders.  No.  Big winner is Wal*Mart with a ONE FULL PAGE ad in the Sunday Parade section for BISSELL products with ROLLBACK prices.  Nice array too.  Check it out.

My choice for a Mother's Day vacuum present:  Easy decison: The iRobot.  Such a deal!

HAPPY VACUUM CLEANER SHOPPING..........

If you are interested in buying the IRobot Scheduler but not the 2 for 1 offer that retailers are offering, go to COSTCO stores.

It offers the iRobot Scheduler (top-of-the-line) for $259 AND a $50 manufacturer's mail-in-coupon.  Final cost before taxes: $209.  Such a deal!  Offer good through June 10 at COSTCO Stores.

Mother's Day May 13.
