Apparently the name "wind-tunnel" associated with an upright vacuum cleaner originated with Apex over 50 years ago. An ad from "The Saturday Evening Post," probably from the early 1950's, posted today under Vacuum Cleaner of the Day on the Vacuum Cleaner Collectors Club website, showed the Apex featuring "wind-tunnel" suction.

Now we have the Hoover Windtunnel models.

The only thing the two brands have in common is the name. Apex uses the name to identify a diffent path the air and dirt take, after the fan, compared to other uprights at the time like Kirby, Royal, Eureka. HOOVER's technology has to do w/ the brushroll chamber.

There is no legal issues since decades have passed, plus there are no Apex vacuum cleaners.

Mike W., thanks for pointing out the difference between wind-tunnel suction as used by Apex and the windtunnel action of the Hoover Windtunnel. I didn't mean to imply that any legal issues might be involved in the use of the term "windtunnel." I just found interesting the Apex advertisement from years ago.
