Spring 2007 Consumer Reports Ratings
02/01/07 at 2:39pm

The Spring ratings are out, at least in the print magazine.

Just a couple comments:

1.  CR has added ratings for pet hair clean up from carpeting and new rating for ease of use.
2.  The Bissell "Dyson clone" was tested, and sometimes the copy scores higher than the original.
3.  The Dyson DC17 was not included in the results.  Apparently they did do some preliminary testing, and they made comments about its ability to pick up pet hair compared to the other Dysons.  I suspect we'll see an update on the DC17 in a future issue, although they implied that it was rather pricey.
4.  Kirby and Rainbow continue their dominance in the reliability scores.  I'm somewhat disappointed that they have not wrote anything about the buying experience of door-to-door vacuums like Kirby and Rainbow.  Curiously, they list the price of the Kirby as $1350 and the Rainbow at around $1800 (if my memory is correct).  Yet, when I had the misfortune of a Rainbow demo last year, they priced it at the astronomical $2200 level.
5.  The new bagless Hoover Windtunnel placed significantly higher than the Hoozer Z.  Although neither is exactly nimble with the heavy weights.
6.  Eureka and Electrolux seem to be gaining respect in the rankings.  Eureka seems to make reliable uprights based on the reader survey, second only to Kirby.  We still don't have a reliability rating on Dyson.

Clearly all vacuums have their pluses and minuses, and the CR report certainly highlights a small number of these.

RAT:

According to Consumer Reports in the brand repair history, its says that Eureka bought the Electrolux brand in late 2003.  Eureka has been producing its premier vacuum line under the Electrolux name since that time of purchase.

Also the GE vacuum brand (canisters abd uprights) name which has been exclusive to Wal*Mart stores since 2000 is also Eureka made.  The bagged canister for $160 has traditionally gotten good reviews and ratings from CR.

Consumer Reports is showing itself in making mistakes of ownership. Electrolux A.B. owns Eureka, not the other way around. I do not dispute the Electrolux name being on the cleaners since 2003 . Aerus started using the trademark name Lux on their cleaners after 2003.

Hello Tiger21:

Surprising that CR would report this erroneously without noting the error.  CR has reported this way several times in the past.  Could it be that a parent company with a different lesser known name owns both the Electrolux AB Sweden and Eureka brands?  Making you correct and leading to the confused fact/error by CR?

Hi Carmine, yes tiger21 is right, this has to be explained over and over again to the public.

Hello O.T.:

I have no doubt that he and you are right and CR is in error! That's the reason you are called the experts and the professionals in the vacuum industry (by CR).
