It's all about Dyson this week at Best Buy. Nice ad....

Very nice and the kudos winner for the week.  3 dyson models featured: The new DC18 Slim for $469, the DC16 Hand Held for $149; and the DC07 ALL Floors for $399.

Circuit City has the HOOVER Rewind Elite for $99 and the dyson DC07 Animal for $499.  No deals.  CC earlier this week announced layouts and cuts of 3,400 store employees as a cost cutting measure.  That's 8 percent of the workforce.  And they replace the employees with lower paid workers and contract out more of its information technology operations.  Sounds like the Federal government's modus operandi.  And we all know how that has worked.  Brain drain and brain outsourcing.  Now we really know what's meant by "No brainer."

CC suffers from the same malady as Linens-N-Things: Old out of date stock.  Nice to see the BISSELL Healthy Home and HOOVER Elite Rewind added to CC repertoire.

DC07 Animal for $499?  Come on guys! Really?  Give me a break.  If the vacuum buying public hasn't already purchased a 5 year old model for full MSRP what makes you think they will now?  After all these years?  If your marketing and products were better, maybe you wouldn't have to cut your best and brightest employees!

KMart has the Eureka bagless Maxima for $54, the DD Dynamite for $44; the DD Vision canister bagged and bagless for $89 and the HOOVER Steam Vac 5 rotating brush Spin Scrub for $179.  The HOOVER Steam Vac competes with the HSN product price offered over the weekend of $149 before shipping and handling.

Kudos go to Maytag and the Consumer Product Safety Commission for full page size ads in the PARADE and the USA Weekend for the safety and recall notice.  Government and industry working together to ensure consumer safety.  What a concept, as Robbin Williams would say!

SEARS has a 2 day sale on two vacuums: Friday and Saturday April 6 and 7.  THe SEARS Kenmore bagged canister for $149, the quacomole green which was the subject of a thread by Venson on the Forum called "Sucking it up at home".... and the Dirt Devil Featherlite bagged upright for $39.  Surprising to see DD on sale by SEARS!

Fry's Electronics has refurbished DD Breeze bagless upright vacuums for sale for $39.  Refurbed to original specs. Also a liteweight upright.

Let's see: For $469 a vacuum buying customer can buy 12 of the DD Featherlites and/or Breeze vacuums!  And 3 SEARS Kenmore canisters and still have money left over!  Interesting!

Hello Chris:

I doubt that many new vacuums were sold during Holy Week (the week leading up to Easter Sunday).  And the reason in part that BEST BUY has a dyson encore for the DC18 Slim, which from last week to this week is now called a lightweight?   Why do vacuums get overlooked during Holy Week?  People are pre-occupied with Easter related stuff, school breaks, family gatherings, church activities and meals.  The clean up and new vacuum sales come in the weeks after Easter.  IMHO.  I almost missed the dyson DC18 which is squeezed in with the Whirlpool and LG laundry sales.  However the BISSELL Cleanview 11 upright bagless for $62 is the eye catcher.  BTW the BISSELL only weighs 15 pounds if I remember right.

Business news wise it has been a good week for BEST BUY, which unlike it's smaller rival Circuit City, reported good 4th quarter earnings and sales.  Circuit City did not (see post from April 2 above which talks about worker layoffs and cuts).  Many analysts thought the poor showing of Circuit City (due particularly to the lower big screen TV prices) would affect BEST BUY.  But BEST BUY proved them wrong.  For many reasons including the "Geek Squad" and recent store expansions (while CC is trying to catch up).  A new store is even opening shortly in N. Las Vegas.  More to follow.

In addition to BEST BUY with the DC18 dyson-lite for $469 and BISSELL CleanView 11 for $62 (a savings of $22 from MSRP), several other retailers have vacuum deals this week.

CIRCUIT CITY stores, struggling with its competitor BEST BUY, to stay above water and with a marketing malady of selling out of date and old products, offers the DC18 Slim for $469, the BISSELL HEALTHY HOME for $249, and the HOOVER All Terrain Steam Vac for $299.  NO deals on the dyson-lite but 10 percent off the HOOVER and BISSELL.

ORECK, after a hiatus of several weeks probably due to the Easter season, even advertised its XL21 in a huge quarter page Saturday ad with $100 trade in allowance off the price.  Plus the usual giveaways with the XL21: 21 free annual "tune-ups", the Compact 5 pound canister, 21 year warranty, and 30 day in home risk free trial.  Welcome back Dave.

Sorry Dyson Chris but the Kudos winner this week for vacuum sales is not BEST BUY but KOHL's with EVERYTHING on sale from April 11-16.  After Easter!  Offering 15, 20, and 30 percent off EVERYTHING in the store and on-line for using the KOHL's charge card.  And it has some nice floorcare offerings:  The Eureka upright bagless Altima for $89; the BISSELL Powersteamer for $99; the BISSELL Momentum for $99; Eureka bagged Boss Smart Vac (the stalwart of the big box stores) for $149; the dyson DC17 for $549; the Dirt Devil Kone designer hand held vacuum for $39; the iRobot Roomba Discovery for $279; the BISSELL little green cleaner for $69; the Euro-Pro stick sweeper for $69; the HOOVER FloorMate  (with the revolving brush) for $129; the BISSELL ProHeat deep cleaner for $199; and the best for last: The Rug Doctor Mighty Pro for $699 recently the subject of a thread on the Forum.

And remember all the above KOHL's prices are BEFORE the 15, 20, and 30 percent off on EVERYTHING.  Now KOHL's is talking turkey, mash potatoes and gravy for vacuums.  Check your mail for the KOHL's sales catalog and the amount of savings.  We've got 20 percent off, but my lovely daughter has 30.  As usual, Mother and daughter and grand daughters will head to the women's clothes (apt. 9 in the vernacular).  But if Papa can save 20-30 percent off the Rug Doctor that's huge.  Might even induce me to start a local rug cleaning business in Sun City Aliante?  Wink

HAPPY VACUUMING TRAILS.

KOHL's inflates its MSRP, especially with the dyson product line.  Most of the dysons shown are not in the stores.  Just on-line.  And most KOHL's stores don't stock dysons on the the shelves (and its not because of pilferage.)  The stores usually have a limited selection of display models with "chits" that you carry to the check out counter.  There a call will be made to retrieve the desired model.  If you're lucky, 30 minutes later (on a good day) you walk out with your dyson purchase.

KOHL's MSRP are too pricey unless you combine with a 15, 20, 30 percent off sale.  I think Bed Bath and Beyond is a much better venue for dyson purchases if a buyer is so inclined.  They usually have a 20 percent off every month in concert with the standard industry MSRP.  And they carry the latest dysons in stock and will match competitors' sales prices.

Still, KOHL's gets MY Kudos for the week.  Not because of its dysons on sale.  No.  The diverse array of ALL floor care products on sale in conjunction with the 15, 20, and 30 pefrcent off.  And its after Easter!  Wink

SEARS joins the sales foray with the largest sale of the season and the year.  Thursday April 12-Saturday April 21.

The usual SEARS models: The small bagged cann for $35; the SEAR quacomole green bagged cann for $129 (a topic of a thread on the Forum and an encore appearance (the first time around the price was $149); the Eureka bagless Maxima for $49 and last but not least: HOOVER EmPower bagless for $79 and the HOOVER WT bagged Self-propelled for $199.  The EmPower comes with a power hand tool.  The WT with the 20 foot extension hose and power tool.  And these are the lowest SEARS prices this year.  That's all folks.

Two weeks in a row and Best Buy features the Dyson DC18.... Looks like another good week for Dyson.

Looks like BEST BUY decided against a 3-peat.  Opting instead to "revert" to the DC07 for $399.  And who can blame BEST BUY.  These are still "leftovers" from the days of the fall out between Wal*Mart and dyson over the DC07 All Carpet.  After Wal*Mart scrubbed the DC07 All Carpets excluz model, (because dyson was trying to tell it how to run its sales).  Dyson had to eat a bunch of Wal*Mart DC07 All Floors.  And the stock got "shuffed down" BEST BUY's throat.  That was over a year ago and BEST BUY still has them in inventory.

BEST BUY also has the Eureka Smart Vac (bagged) for $149, and why not?  It was just selected as the most reliable vacuum on the US market by Consumer Reports in the May 2007 issue after an extensive survey of vacuum users.  And the BISSELL Momentum  bagless for $99; and the Eureka Maxima bagless for $59.

Talk about "reverting,"CIRCUIT CITY has the dyson DC07 Animal for $499 and the HOOVER Elite Rewind for $89.

TARGET has the Eureka Boss mini bagless "lightweight" for $35.

And KMart, back in the vacuum sales foray, with the BISSELL ProHeat 2X deep cleaner for $199 (good price); the cordless BISSELL GoVac for $19 (a 50 percent savings); and from least to most expensive: The Dirt Devil Breeze for $44; the DD Swivel Glide for $69; the BISSELL Momentum for $99; and the HOOVER WT bagless for $159.  ALL BISSELL products are on sale at KMart.

Kudos this week go to "THE MAN" (vacuum man)  David Oreck.  After taking an Easter reprieve, ORECK is back in the dailies with quarter page ads for the XL21 (as in 21 year warranty) AND the Sunday Smart Shopper with a full page ad for the XL.  Both ads feature the Davster and his machine.  Looking younger than others in the industry half his age.

And finally I should add that this old vacuum man has an opportunity to put the new ORECK XL to work in my new home for the low price of $149 through a special sales offer from the Humane Society of the US.  That's right.  HSUS and Oreck are partnering in a special sale to pet lovers (count me in) on the XL.  With a one year warranty.  My dear Wife is XL-static.  A long time ORECK fan, she fell in love with the 8 pound "lightweight" vacuum the first time she used it years ago.  Now, she'll finally have one.  BTW, my dear Wife used the dyson DC18 Slim at SEARS recently during our visit.  ORECK easily won the buy decision....performance and price make the buying difference every time.

HAPPY VACUUMING TRAILS...........

Add two more vacuums to the SEARS sales for the next 3 days only.  The HOOVER Foldaway bagless upright for $55 and the Kenmore Magic Blue bagged canister for $69.  Both at the lowest prices of the season.
