Here's a recap of the Sunday vacuum ads starting with BEST BUY which features the NEW Electrolux Intensity (bagged) for $299.  The features are "designed to maximize suction power while the telescoping handle reduces bending.  Includes fingertip controls.  Bag & Filter change indicator and automatic cord rewind. " It shows a fold down view for easy storage.

BEST BUY also has the HOOVER ELite bagless for $99
and the BISSELL Total Floors Velocity for $149.

TARGET has the usual array: Eureka Quick Up bagless for $24; the Eureka Optima for $55; the Dirt Devil Vibe for $75 BEFORE a $20 Giftcard; HOOVER Savvy for $199; and the dyson DC14 Drive for $459 BEFORE a $50 Giftcard.  This is the TARGET dyson exclusive which comes with the car cleaning tool and flex crevice tool.

KMart gets into the vacuum sales foray too this week.  On sale are the Eureka Boss Supralite bagless for $36; the Kenmore canister for $39; the BISSELL Quicksteamer for $69; the Dirt Devil Glide (HEPA filiter; 30 foot cord; turbo tool) for $74; the HOOVER WT bagless for $159.

Oreck has the premier ad space this week.  Taking the whole full first page of the "SMart Source" magazine for its XL 2 Deluxe.  A pic of Dave relaxing on a lounge chair saying: "Don't sweat it.  My Oreck XL Deluxe does all the work so you don't have to."  And a lovely young lady hugging her Oreck XL 2.  Usual giveaways: Cordless iron; housekeeper canister; free shipping; in home no risk 30 day trial; 5 year guaranty; 3 free annual tune-ups; and no interest and payments for one year.

But the best deal goes to Fry's Electronics for the BISSELL HEALTHY HOME for $189.  Yes that's right!  This $299 vacuum has a price reduction to $249, just like Wal*Mart, BEST BUY, LOWE's and others.  AND also has a $30 BISSELL mail-in-rebate AND another $30 Instant Savings from Fry's for a net price of $189.  Comes with a two year limited warranty.  The vacuum deal of the week for bagless upright buyers.

HAPPY VACUUMING TRAILS.

On Wednesday March 21 KOHL's has all floorcare products on sale and is offering an additional 15 percent off for seniors.  But check the prices carefully.  KOHL's is noted for high MSRP and/or likes to mark up prices before the sale time (as it did recently with dyson prices) to lull the unknowing buyers into a false sense of savings.

Quote from Carmine_Difazio on 12/09/06 at 8:28am:

Earlier this week Wal*Mart "ousted" two senior marketing executives: Julie Roehm, its senior VP of marketing communications; and Sean Womack, VP of communications architecture.  And a few days after the "firings" Wal*Mart "dismissed" the lead advertising agency it had just hired (late October 2006): Interpublic Group's Draft FCB.

The plot thickens and the fatalities mount.  How will the "fall out" affect vacuum cleaner brands, models and sales?  Only time will tell.  But there is one certainty.  There will be an effect.  The questions are: How, what, when and which?

Carmine D.

According to the Wal*Mart court filing, Ms. Roehm and Mr. Womack developed a romantic relationship over the course of several months.  The suit claims the pair "inappropriately extended business travel in order to spend additional personal time with one another at Wal*Mart's expense," citing a hotel stay in Chicago and golfing outing in New York.

The suit draws from internal emails tracing the relationship from early 2006 including ones culled from Mr. Womack's wife, Wal*Mart, and Interpublic Group's Draft FCB.

Hi Carmine,

Thanks.  It's great that the GE's canister is still out there at a decent price.  Any word about it's durability?

Hello Venson:

The GE "bagged" canister made by Eureka has been a Wal*Mart exclusive since 2000.  It's a seasoned veteran in the industry.  It launched along with 2 uprights which have fallen by the wayside.  Ironic that the canister survived and flourished while the uprights didn't.  For $150 retail, it is on par with all the other vacuums on the market especially Eureka for reliability and durability.  Eureka has one of the better reliability records from Consumer Reports which consistently rates the GE canister as one of the best sold.

Likewise for most of the other big box stores.  And no vacuum ads featured in the Sunday Week End magazines.

But thanks to Circuit City and KMart there are some vacuums and floorcare products on sale.

Starting with CC, the usual dyson Animal DC07 for $499; HOOVER SteamVac All Terrain for $299 and a newcomer to the CC reportoire: The BISSELL Healthy Home for $249.  Remember the BISSELL Healthy Home has a $30 mail-in rebate from BISSELL so the final price is $219.  Not too bad.

KMart has the BISSELL PowerSteamer for $115 on a closeout sale.  And the BISSELL Velocity for $119; also 2 Kenmores: The bagged canister for $139 (guacamole green is the official color and on sale at Sears stores for $149); and the bagged/bagless upright for $89.

Oreck opted out of the weekend sales but continues to keep peppering the daily LV papers with adds for the XL Classic for $299 along with the usual giveaways: Cordless iron, 5 pound compact canister and 3 year warranty with a 30 day risk free in home trial.  And David Oreck's classic sales slogan:  "More Clean, Less Money!"

Here's an Oreck Web site with Oreck vacuum reviews from people around the country (using their real names):

That's all vacuum fans.

On Friday and Saturday March 30 and 31, Kohl's is offering 50 percent off on "selected" floorcare products.  Same caveat applies: Kohl's uses a high MSRP to calculate the mark down so buyer beware.

Is anyone dumb enough to believe that Oreck did not delete the negative reviews.
