David Oreck has a full page ad in the USA Weekend for the XL Ultra.  The consumate marketeer has a new twist.  Not only the giveaways but NO INTEREST AND PAYMENTS for one full year but check out the fine print for the effective interest rate.

Bagless upright vacuums are the big feature this weekend by the bib box retailers.  BEST BUY adds the Euro-Pro Infinity uprights, both models, to its sales venue boasting 24 cyclones for constant cleaning power.

Circuit City is back in the vacuum sales business with this week's features for Bissell and HOOVER uprights including the HOOVER WT 2 Extra Reach with extra hose and floor brush for $299.

Not much in the way of vacuum cleaner sales and advertisements.  BEST BUY has NO vacuum for sale this week.  Notta.  And the PARADE and USA Weekend have nothing too.

Circuit City has its 3 main players: HOOVER, dyson and BISSELL.  But just the DC07 models, HOOVER WT (1) bagless, and Cleanview.  No new models.

Target likewise:  DC07 All Floors $399 and instant $20 in store cash back; HOOVER WT 2 for $299 and $30 Target Gift Card and the Savvy for $199.

Lowe's features an array of SHOP VACs.  Must be FALL Cleanup time.  But unlike other vacuums, only details the cord length and HP, no weight information.

David Oreck opted to advertise in the main section of the Las Vegas Sunday newspaper.  Nice size ad with the XL21, 21 year warranty, 21 free yearly tuneups, free 30 day trial, and the usual giveaways.  And of course a listing of all the local Oreck dealers.  Have to pay them a visit.

Slim pickens.  Must be gearing up for the Veteran's Day sales and pre 2006 Holiday sales.

Have to wait until next week.

Is probably old news but Our BestBuy is now endcapping the Shark Infinity cyclone upright;  Price if I remember right is somewhere around $129  (only looked briefly as new Dyson DC17 took my attention away - posted observations in DC17 topic).  Lots of Hoover Windtunnel 2 and Dysons on the shelves there.  No special sales noted.  VAX is long gone.  Hoover Elite still going strong.  Only cannister was a small Orange Hoover.

The Infinitys are not $129, but $199.99 and $249.99. They are too new for the price to decrease.

I like the Shark Infinity bagless uprights better than the VAX uprights.  EP Shark Infinity filters better, better USA rug oriented brush roll (tufts could be longer and wider like the VAX), hose and attachment usage is better and quicker, AND rug height adjustments on the Shark.  Plus the filters (3 includng HEPA) are ALL washable and lifetime and don't need constant maintenance (months and years vice usages).  Actually 4 counting the filter over the motor and before the HEPA.

$199 and $249 are good prices for the Infinty cleaners.  BEST BUY is a good venue for the Infinity.  So is Kohls.  Target hasn't added yet and the same for Wal*Mart.  If Wal*Mart adds the Infinity upright (s) to its sales venue then sales will sky rocket.  Even at $199-$249.  More than likely Wal*Mart would reduce the prices a tad from those levels.  They would sell.  Even independent vacuum cleaner stores MAY add the Infinity uprights to its venue just as an accomodation to their clientele who specifically ask for bagless uprights but who don't want to spend the $400 plus for a dyson.  I would.  With the after purchase parts support by Euro-Pro, independent vacuum stores would be more likely to carry and sell the brand especially at the $199-$249.  There is a profit margin built into the sales price.

I'm surprised about the differences in the size and shape of the 24 cyclones in the Infinity.  The 24 cyclones in the Infinity are much smaller than the dyson (and lighter).  The Infinity cyclones are washable unlike the dyson which forbids water in the root technology chamber.  Infinity comes with a port in the cyclone housing for washing and drying.  Nice touch.  With all the Infinity bin parts easily removable and washable, the Infinity will maintain its "look likes new" if users are conscientious.   With a HEPA filter that only needs cleaning and washing every 3-4 years, keeping the 24 cyclones clean and new is a plus for the vacuum for users who want longevity.  A feature (longevity) not known for Euro-Pro Shark vacuums up to now.

You have previously claimed that a washable filter will not last a life time.  Why the sudden change of mind?

I believe you also claimed that VAX would unseat Dyson due in part to it's lower price.  Vax is gone and Dyson (high priced as it is) remains a top seller.  The low priced Fusion was not good enough to keep Dyson away from Wal Mart.  Why is the Infinity suddenly going to win?  Is it because it does not start with D and in with n?

Infinity upright sales WILL hurt dyson sales and other vacuum sales at BEST BUY just as VAX sales did.  VAX uprights were only sold through Best Buy and SEARS stores.  Very limited sales venue.  And probably the reason they folded.

Competition reduces brand sales of any product.  Especially like "quality" competition at less than half the price.  So will Infinity sales at Kohl's.  And Target and Wal*Mart if these stores take on the Infinity line.  And they probably will in short order.  And vacuum stores which will be more likely now than before to carry the Infinity uprights.

The HEPA filter in the Euro-Pro Shark Infinity has to be cleaned every 3-5 YEARS (not months) by tapping clean AND washing if desired by the user.  Washing of the HEPA is optional not necessary.  Euro-Pro Infinity also comes with 2 extra filters (and belts).  One spare filter for each of the other 2 non HEPA filters on the Infinity.  Having spare filters increases the useful life at least by a factor of 2.   That may or may not be a lifetime depending on how you define lifetime.

Speaking of Wal*Mart, the stock was the most active on the NYSE today and closed up $1.50 to $51+ a share.  Wal*Mart reported its earnings today, better than the street, and announced plans to cut back on future store expansions.  This strategic move follows the same strategy that MacDonald's followed in 2003 when MacDonalds stock was languishing for many years.  Since that time, MacDonald's stock doubled in price and raised its stock dividend several times.  Wal*Mart will probably do the same.

BTW Wal*Mart has 4000 stores in the USA and 2500 more overseas.

I had no idea that Dyson would boost Wal Mart so much.  That is amazing.

A dirth of vacuum cleaner ads this weekend.  Most retailers are pre-occupied with All Hallow's Eve rather than vacuums.

Even Circuit City which has been active in vacuum cleaner ads since adding vacuums to its sales venue is absent.  So is SEARS, Kohl's, the PARADE, and USA Weekend Magazine.  Notta.

The brand winners at Target and BEST BUY are BISSELL and dyson.  BEST BUY even has a BISSELL exclusive: The bagless Momentum previously mentioned on the Forum for ONLY $119.

Dyson's DC07 Animal gets the nod at Target and BEST BUY for $499 but Target has the edge with a $50 GiftCard.

HOOVER aired for one hour on the HSN over the weekend under the feature "HOOVER INNOVATIONS."  For sale were the Floormate and the HOOVER WT2 bagless: Two of HOOVER's murderer's row product line.  No shipping and handling.  And a return policy that allows returns well after the Christmas Holiday, just in case the gift receiver didn't want it.  HSN mentioned that several hundreds of thousands of FloorMates had been sold on the HSN.  Selling prices were $149 for the FM and $319 for the WT2 bagless.

Vacuum sales advertisements are filtering back into the newsprint this weekend with some notables.

BEST BUY has ONLY ONE vacuum for sale in its Sunday supplement: the DC17 Absolute Animal for $549.  No other specials. The pic is so small the new dyson vacuum looks just like the old DC14.  With all that advertising paper, you'd think BB would blow up the new dyson and give it some pizzazz.  Nay nay.  Have to read the fine print to even know its a new dyson model.  The new greater dyson?  Not from this picayune ad.

The Sunday PARADE has a full pager for HOOVER and two of its 3 Murderers' Row product line: The HOOVER Floormate and the HOOVER WT 2 bagless.  And a really nice kicker.........if you purchase both by January 7, 2007, you get a $100 rebate at participating retailers.  It's about time HOOVER offers the combo special purchases.  Quite frankly I was expecting this buyers' incentive last Holiday season and HOOVER let me down (probably the merger and buyout with Whirlpool to blame).  Glad to see HOOVER saw the light this Holiday season.

Some minor mentionables: Circuit City with their customary HOOVER, dyson, BISSELL products.  Nothing new.  Same old same old.  DC07 Animal $499 before a 10 percent in store savings.  DC07 All Floors $399 (before 10 percent in store discount).  DC14 $429 before the 10 percent off.  HOOVER WT bagless $159 before the 10 percent off, WT2 Extra Reach $299 before the 10 percent off and the BISSELL Clean View bagless and Lift Off bagless at the MSRP of $99 and $169 before the 10 percent off.  Plus the Proheat 2X for $249 before the 10 percent off.  This is the one that actually heats the water about 25 degrees hotter.

Linens N Things has the dyson DC07 for $399 and DC14 Animal for $549 BEFORE a 20 percent discount coupon off.  IRobot also gets a play with the Scooba wet floor for $299 and Roomba Discovery for $279 BEFORE the 20 percent off.  The Scooba's original MSRP was $599.  What a difference poor sales make for a publicly held company.  Sell or perish.

And LNT even has the Exclusive Shark bagless (Green) for $149, the Green Sweeper for $29 and the 2 in 1 stick and hand for $59 BEFORE the 20 percent off.  Plus the Green Shark upright comes with a $30 hand hand.  Looks like LNT is making room for the new E-P Infinity Uprights for the Holidays.

It shaping up to be a good Holiday sales season for vacuum cleaners.  Lots of new vacuum offings in the big box stores, cept for the dyson canister.  Still MIA.  It's been a long time in coming and still not here yet.  That's all for this week folks.
