Hi O.T.,
If we're not talking vacuum-mania or flavor of the day, I'd have to choose the Nilfisk GM 80. It is mostly aluminum and light, has generous bag size, an unbelievable pre-filtering set-up and with either the optional HEPA or ULPA unit after-filtering is par excellence as far as emissions go. Also, exhaust air leaves the machine well ablove floor level so dust disturbance is never an issue.
Being the motor sits directly on top of the machine it can be easily unlatched for inspection or maintenance.
This machine can use an optional power nozzle kit (Eureka clone) or can be used with several other high-efficiency powered nozzles quite easily if that's your preference. The same applies for atttachments too. It is rather quiet when fitted with the after filter option but not overly noisy when not.
The Nilfisk's only problem is that it is a plain Jane though it has some of the most formidably seductive brand mates in the industry. Nothing lights up, or jingles or whistles to dazzle you with BS and its lines are certainly nowhere near stunning -- looks more like mini beer keg. But from that comes the beauty -- it is simply built to last and to do what it is meant to do well.
'Nough said?

well you may laugh but... I really think the Dirt Devil ULTRA Vision Swivel Glide is a REALLY GOOD deep-cleaner. I use mine everyday and it picks up ALOT on Berber. And you may complain about the "tap-clean" filter is messy, well it is not, Oh I filled it up all the way past the filter, it didnt loose any air flow by my test...

I use the Lux Guardian canister and Lux Legacy Upright. In the shop I use a CB 2000. Would love to have a CA.
My wife is the one that picked and got the Guardian. It was her decision and I agree with it.

More professionals use Eureka Sanitaires more then any other vacuum by far, they're the back bone of the commercial vacuuming industry becasue they're the most powerful, simplest, cheapest, toughest, easily repaired vacuum made and they last a long time, plus they're very light and have the largest bags in the industry. Now if your not just a janiotor or huge maids service, I've heard quite a few vacuum store owners who've been around a long time say the filterqueen is the best vacuum made, and theirs a lot of good arguments for that, but they're more of a super fancy home vacuum, not a serious heavy duty working for a living piece of machinery. There's also a very strong argument for Kirby being the best vacuum ever made, once again too expensive. Miele is an amazing machine. Certainly throughout time Electrolux has made one of the best certainly the longest lasting vacuums ever made, and all us vacuum freaks all collect and rever them. But yeah the pros use Sanitiares, you see them all the time in every janitorial closet. They've sold more Sanitaires then any other vacuum ever made, it is singularly the most succesful vacuum ever made.

Professionals also really like Proteam vacuums a lot because they're light and incredibly agile (you can climb up a ladder and clean the ceiling of a warehouses) they're $250, they're very powerful and quiet (triple stage Ametek lamb accoustek motor, 130" lift 130 cfm per minute with a 2" hose), they're very simple basically a tube with a motor, and they last a long time. Back pack vacuum are becoming increasingly popular with professional janitors. Professional Janiotor also are really liking the little Henry vacuums, mainly because they're very cheap and tough, and quiet and powerful and can hold lots of dust and do wet dry. Dirt capacity is a big deal when your vacuuming a lot. Complicated vacuums don't succeed in the commercial setting, occasionally you'll see a windosr but it's numerous components just make itt too expensive to compete with a Sanitaire. The sanitiare is 250 dollar and the windsor is 6 to 800. Windsor is a respected commercial vacuum though and I'd love to own one. They're really nice, they sound really nice, they sound like a Mercedes Benz, quiet powerful beautiful. They're really well built lot's of nice kewl futures. And some of them are really big. Sanitaires are totally dominating the commercial setting because of their 16" model with cloth bag. I mean when you start vacuuming a large building and it takes hours, the 16" Sanitaire is just so fast, and powerful, and efficient, and it's bag doesn't pop when u suck up tacks.

Cloth bags are the concern: People don't dump. I recommend the F&G paper inside the cloth outer which is also available. Cleaner to use and easier to maintain.
