Hi O.T.,

If we're not talking vacuum-mania or flavor of the day, I'd have to choose the Nilfisk GM 80.  It is mostly aluminum and light, has generous bag size, an unbelievable pre-filtering set-up and with either the optional HEPA or ULPA unit after-filtering is par excellence as far as emissions go.  Also, exhaust air leaves the machine well ablove floor level so dust disturbance is never an issue.

Being the motor sits directly on top of the machine it can be easily unlatched for inspection or maintenance.

This machine can use an optional power nozzle kit (Eureka clone) or can be used with several other high-efficiency powered nozzles quite easily if that's your preference.  The same applies for atttachments too.  It is rather quiet when fitted with the after filter option but not overly noisy when not.

The Nilfisk's only problem is that it is a plain Jane though it has some of the most formidably seductive brand mates in the industry.  Nothing lights up, or jingles or whistles to dazzle you with BS and its lines are certainly nowhere near stunning -- looks more like mini beer keg.  But from that comes the beauty -- it is simply built to last and to do what it is meant to do well.

'Nough said?

Venson

well you may laugh but... I really think the Dirt Devil ULTRA Vision Swivel Glide is a REALLY GOOD deep-cleaner. I use mine everyday and it picks up ALOT on Berber. And you may complain about the "tap-clean" filter is messy, well it is not, Oh I filled it up all the way past the filter, it didnt loose any air flow by my test...      [smiley=tekst-toppie.gif]

I use the Lux Guardian canister and Lux Legacy Upright. In the shop I use a CB 2000. Would love to have a CA.
My wife is the one that picked and got the Guardian. It was her decision and I agree with it.

More professionals use Eureka Sanitaires more then any other vacuum by far, they're the back bone of the commercial vacuuming industry becasue they're the most powerful, simplest, cheapest, toughest, easily repaired vacuum made and they last a long time, plus they're very light and have the largest bags in the industry.  Now if your not just a janiotor or huge maids service, I've heard quite a few vacuum store owners who've been around a long time say the filterqueen is the best vacuum made, and theirs a lot of good arguments for that, but they're more of a super fancy home vacuum, not a serious heavy duty working for a living piece of machinery.  There's also a very strong argument for Kirby being the best vacuum ever made, once again too expensive.  Miele is an amazing machine.  Certainly throughout time Electrolux has made one of the best certainly the longest lasting vacuums ever made, and all us vacuum freaks all collect and rever them.  But yeah the pros use Sanitiares, you see them all the time in every janitorial closet.  They've sold more Sanitaires then any other vacuum ever made, it is singularly the most succesful vacuum ever made.

Professionals also really like Proteam vacuums a lot because they're light and incredibly agile (you can climb up a ladder and clean the ceiling of a warehouses) they're $250, they're very powerful and quiet (triple stage Ametek lamb accoustek motor, 130" lift 130 cfm per minute with a 2" hose), they're very simple basically a tube with a motor, and they last a long time.  Back pack vacuum are becoming increasingly popular with professional janitors.  Professional Janiotor also are really liking the little Henry vacuums, mainly because they're very cheap and tough, and quiet and powerful and can hold lots of dust and do wet dry.  Dirt capacity is a big deal when your vacuuming a lot.  Complicated vacuums don't succeed in the commercial setting, occasionally you'll see a windosr but it's numerous components just make itt too expensive to compete with a Sanitaire.  The sanitiare is 250 dollar and the windsor is 6 to 800.  Windsor is a respected commercial vacuum though and I'd love to own one.   They're really nice, they sound really nice, they sound like a Mercedes Benz, quiet powerful beautiful.  They're really well built lot's of nice kewl futures.  And some of them are really big.  Sanitaires are totally dominating the commercial setting because of their 16" model with cloth bag.  I mean when you start vacuuming a large building and it takes hours, the 16" Sanitaire is just so fast, and powerful, and efficient, and it's bag doesn't pop when u suck up tacks.

Cloth bags are the concern: People don't dump.  I recommend the F&G paper inside the cloth outer which is also available.  Cleaner to use and easier to maintain.

I would have to agree with you on this one, paper inserts are cleaner, centralize the suction better, and have a better chance of being changed before catastrofic failure.

bagless machines are o.k. for special cleaning applications. Sort of like a 22 gallon shop vac........

and dont forget the magnet on the uprights, these really work for metal objects......

In Canada, what has become somewhat popular is the Taski Bora 12 canister cleaner distributed by Wood Wyant.  I believe the distributor in the US is Johnson Diversey.  10 years ago I bought one for my father's business.  He uses it about 1/2 hour per week.  This unit has been selling for around $400 Canadian (give or take) for the past 10 years.  That's about $340 US.  It comes with hose, two chrome extension tubes and multipurpose floor tool.  I changed the hand grip from 1.5 inch to 1.25 as we were finding that the 1.5 inch attachments were more difficult to locate, not to mention quite costly.  It comes  with a single stage lamb motor (Taski products are made in Switzerland) that the distributor informs me produces 88 inches of lift, and 129 CFM.  It can also be bought with an optional power brush made by Lindhaus.  Bags are relatively large and inexpensive (10 for $28)  You can also purchase an optional microfilter kit.  The unit is fairly quite as well, when I tested it with my decibal meter, It had a rating of about 65.  A friend of mine is a caretaker with one of the school districts, he also uses the Taski vacuum, as Kris told me, he would buy a Taski for his home before any consumer type vacuum.  Taski also makes floor buffers as well, ours is over 20 years old and still going strong.  In our homes, we have electrolux canisters, 2100 series, ultralux, and some oldies like the ap series, model 89 (canadian metal one), an old eureka that takes style K bags,  (at least forty years old), and an old model 12 Lux that my grandfather sold in the 30's.  I've had to repair the families lux products, but not the taski.

Well both the cloth and the paper bag and the dust cup each have their own unique advatages that allow you to custoize the vacuum to different settings.  Infact there's two different paper bags.  Theirs the Sanitaire blue with the micron filter outer bag that screws on, and the Sanitaire red with the clip on paper bag with no micron filter outer bag.  The blue has amazing filtration.  Better then anyone needs.  I would clean the air outdoors and certainly indoors.  The red paper bag is still great, particular with  Eureka's filterette electrotatic micron bags.  The red outbag that clips on has a performace advantage in that the part where the bag attaches to the vacuum is a larger bore piece of plumbing so it can flow air more easily.  Now the cloth bag.  That's some raunchy stuff.  That's hard core industrial duty.  It is the largest bag,  I mean u turn the vacuum on that thing baloons way up, and air can flow through it more easily.  So it is distinctly able to flow lot more air more easily because of it's creater surface area and easier permability.  It's the most powerful bag.  ANd it can pop.  Now yes the filtration is poor, but in a commercial setting where ur vacuuming a huge office building, people are more interested in how tough the bag is, how much dirt it can hold, the power of the vacuum, and the fact that they wont ever have to pay for any more bags in the future.  Another one of the differences between the residential Sanitaires and commercial is the blue has this really nice 25 ft cord where u just twist the hanger and the cord instantly fall of and ur ready to go.  The commercial doens;t have the quick release future but it has a 50 ft cord allowing you to cover large area without needed to replug in the vacuum.  What can I say, in my opinion it's the best vacuum made, my screename isn't Sanitiare for nothing.

In regards to the powerhead for the Taski cannister
(which is the larger Lindhaus with the Taski logo on it), the distributor informs me that the cost is $299.00 Canadian. This includes the head plus piping.  In regards to the hose, you use the original, or they recommend going to an optional one, but the lady could not find a price or any details on that option.  We're assuming it would be an electrified hose.

Yes, I got the to fit lux hoses under control.  Thanks

In regards to the weather here in Canada, we've put our dogs sleds away.  We're waiting for our brains to thaw out.  Just kidding.  Here in the prairies, it has been rather warm, on the west where my parents live, they're definitely getting their share of precipitation right now, rain.

Hi Vernon, thanks for the reply to my request. It looks like this machine is a real up an comer. The pricing is right there  probally due to trading with the commercial end of things, good stuff at a great price.[NO NEED TO ADD USELESS HYPE AND CLAIMS]. That add to the price. Over a period of time it should be very easy to sell.

Many collectors would go nuts over that eureka rotomatic machine, the hose end at the machine end are very hard to find, some were metal, most plastic, love that 360 degree swivel.....
