As I've said many times I see those Eurekalux burn out problems every week. Yet isn't that the very same Highly Rated CONSUMER REPORTS Vacuum? LOL.

Drove by the nearest Aerus Lux/Electrolux dealer one night last week so I stopped by and looked in the window. In this closet of a store there were 13 of those Oxygens lined up like little soldiers with repair tags. Poorly informed consumers are bringing them into this store thinking they bought an Original Electrolux.

Hardsell if your looking to be outraged at the industry this topic would be quite valid for ire. Hello Lucky1:
If HS is honest with you he'll tell you that several years ago, when the Electrolux canns made the CR top rankings, he wanted to buy from BEST BUY and asked my opinion offline. I told him the Eureka lux canns were okay but to wait and shop for the sales or buy the Intensity lightweight upright. Shortly afterward, his man dyson filed a grievance against Eureka lux Intensity for claiming it outcleaned/outperformed a DC14 by 50 percent. With the ASA obviously because dyson is there. There are mixed interpretations of the ruling but basically James went home with his head down. Which I suspect is the same position HS is holding his head now after reading this post. BTW your commentary on the changes in the economy and retailers being flexible with their inventory holdings and products in order to survive and flourish is absolutely brilliant. My compliments and kudos. Carmine D.

Vernon, Lucky1 You already know the flaw in the design. Putting these electrical contacts in plastic housing. The movement and herky jerky motions by the users cause the contacts to wiggle, loosen, get hot, spark and burn. In turn melting the plastic around them. Result: Dead in the water. I'm glad the Indy put the responsibility right back on the retailer and/or manufacturer to make the customer whole. I would almost guarantee all that when the same problem occurs again, and it will, the customer will go right back to the Indy who steered him back to the big box rip off store, I mean retail store, that sold the product and made the profit. Probably trade for an Indy store brand/model. Of course when the Oxygen customer went back to the retailer it put the problem back in the manufacturer's court to make good. And HS wonders why the Indies have smiles on their faces. Their laughing on the inside. Big box rip off stores, I mean retail stores, are sticking it to the manufacturers. No product replacement, no repair, no nothing but a non-working vacuum for $300 after a few months of use. Carmine D.

And HS, since you asked me like a gentleman, I answered you like one. Are you seeing the correlation? If you ask really nice I'll even answer your ORECK question. And I guarantee you the answer will get stuck in your craw.

The good ole oxylux headache, Its been going on since day one, broken hose sockets, burnt and melted wand leads, wands that snap in 2, powernozzle elbows that snap and break at the collars, melted brush roll bearings and melted housings, 40 dollar h13 filters that need changed more often than stated, broken wheels, broken bag hinges, handles that break at the pivot on the canister, cordwinder contact problems, thermal overload fuse lines that fail, hoses that collapse in no time either the machine end or at the hose handle, Other than that its a pretty nice machine. Oh yeah the bags remind me of my bagged school lunch. regards MOLE

Anyone read/hear about the Electrolux [Eureka-lux] with the burnt out power head/wand contacts under warranty? Covered on channel 7 news. Very interesting. Owner paid $281 for the Oxygen from a big box retailer. Contacts failed under warranty. Owner calls Electrolux and it assures him its covered under warranty. Owner brings into an Indy, who says H-E-double hockey sticks NO WAY. Bring it back where you bought it. THE BIG BOX RIP OFF STORE. BBS says SORRY. Owner goes to Channel 7 Investigation Reports for remedy. Indy says NO WAY NO HOW I didn't sell it and I ain't warrantying it. Channel 7 goes to ELECTROLUX-EUREKA LUX who sent owner a new Oxygen. HAPPY CUSTOMER. The end until it happens again. Carmine D. HI CARMINE

Hello 'turtle1' Here is the Wal*Mart GE branded [Eureka made] canister sold for many years [starting in 2000 and still is some W*M stores] exclusively by W*M for $140-$160. Note the metal wands. No pproblem, to my knowledge, with contacts like the plastic wands on the OXYGEN. This canister consistently received high grades from Consumer Reports and its BEST BUY rating. Not surprising that the EUREKA-LUX canisters scored well. And the EUREKA-lux canisters, sold primatily through BEST BUY stores and LOWE's, are twice the price. I had to post a large image so you can tell the wands are metal and not plastic. Carmine D.

Hi Carmine, While the wands themselves weren't an issue the machine still had problems with the pn cord and handle connection shorting out..usually because it wasn't powered off before removing the handle. The bigger problem however was that there was a small plastic pin located in the bag cover that prevented the hose from swiveling a full 360 degrees. The pin would constantly break causing the hose to over swivel which in turn pulled on the hose cord that plugged into the top of the vacuum. If the cord was pulled on enough it would short out, melt and usually destroy the receptacle on the vacuum itself. I don't know about the US but this machine is still available as a dealer only model in Canada...with the new cheap plastic wands of course. Dusty

Dusty Hello Dusty:
Thanks for the information. I am familiar with the first problem and if I recall it may have been mentioned here in the past. I found this site and thought I post for readers on the GE canister. I gleaned very very quickly and it appears the problems you mention are also included on this fix-it yourself page. http://www.fixya.com/support/p128225-ge_106766_bagged_canister_vacuum Hope business is good now with the back to school rush.
