Echo GT-200R Trimmer

This unit is light, fairly quiet, easy on fuel and relatively powerful. It's also a very easy to start, reliable and well built.

For years I used a heavy straight shaft Stihl brush cutter to do my trimming. It was tiring and awkward to use so I decided to get something lighter. What a relief it is using this unit. It's actually fun. I'm not sure if I like the line feed. It uses the ten inch or so pieces that you shove into two holes and are held there by locking cams. I find they wear quickly when trimming near concrete. But what doesn't? I carry extras in my pocket when I start out. The system is simple and probably overall easier than other line feed systems. Another thing I don't like is the line guard/shield. It's just too restrictive. I took mine off and wear approriate safety glasses etc. when using the trimmer. Much better. It's amazing how good these new trimmers really are and Echo make some of the best. I know Echo products are well made machines. I've got an old, self propelled Echo lawnmower from around 1988 that's running like the day I bought it. Everything on it is original.

Date Purchased: June 2007
Price Paid: $150
Recommend: Yes
Pros:
Light, quiet, powerful, easy to start and use
reasonable price.

Cons:
Line guard is a pain
Line feed system requires frequent stops to replentish line when working around concrete
