Simplicity/Briggs carb problem
#1   Mar 9, 2007 4:03 pm
Hi Everyone:

Have a Simplicity Snowblower, 4 years old w/ 10hp Briggs OHV engine. 1st 2 years everything ran great. Mid-season last year (3rd year) the engine started to idle/run rough, stalled under load. Local OPE dealer examined the unit and said carb dirty, had to rejet, adjusted to run leaner. Used the machine 2-3 times afterwards and it ran like new again.

Used the unit for only the second time this year about 2 weeks ago. Same problem all over again with somewhat rough running/idle and stalling under load. Stored the unit over the past seaason with Stabil in gas and run it with gas with Satbil in it (put in when gas purchased late last fall).

Any thoughts on what I'm doing wrong. Not experienced with engine work, carb cleaning. etc, but can turn a wrench. Is this tough to do for an inexperienced DIYer, or shoudl I just shell out another $100 for repair and pickup/delivery ? (although it's getting expensive).

Thanks in advance.

Hi Everyone:

Neighbor has one of these for sale. Looking to find out if it is a pre or post MTD machine, roughly how old, are parts available, worth buying and for roughly how much? Appearance -wise condition is OK but not great. Here are the model & serial numbers:

Tecumseh engine: HS50-67267G Serial 7175B

Yard Man Lot/Model: 31353-8/K037B

Many thanks in advance

rejetting a carb
#3   Jan 23, 2006 10:19 am
Good morning all:

I have a Simplicity 1060E (B&S Intek OHV, 10HP engine) that is 3 years old. From the beginning of the season, the engine ran rough, stalled easily under loads that normally wouldn't be a problem, needed a lot of choke for a long period of time to warm up. Was stored off season with stabilzer in gas.

Finally had a break in the weather last week. Repair shop picked up machine, cleaned and rejetted carb. Said problem is due to ethanol in gas (now mandatory in CT is " as MTBE is banned). Engine now runs well.

What exactly is "rejetting" a carb?

Thanks in advance.

gravel drives and skid shoes

Hi Everyone:

Just moved and the new house has a gravel drive. I know in the past there has been discussion about welding "skis" onto the standard skids shoes on a 2 stage machine and raising the height of the skids about 3/4" off the surface.

Please advise as to what material to use and any other tips .

Thanks in advance.
