Worm Gear
Original Message   Feb 22, 2005 1:06 pm
Since Sears thinks there parts do not break, they don't seem to carry some replacement parts. What I am looking for is the 22 tooth worm gear for snowblower model 536-918200. Part Number is 50223. I have looked all throu the internet and it is hard even to find a 22 tooth gear at all. Maybe just haven't looked in the right place? Even a good used one would be okay. If anyone out there can help, it would be very appeciated.

I don't know that this is the correct part though,   it could be, I don't know.  Would be worth a phone call.

Another place to try would be RCPW.com

I found this along with others:
Murray-Noma 313861
GEAR, WORM 22T 3.125
$58.83

Again, I don't know that this is a cross match to the Sears number.   Phone calls would be in order.

Good luck!!

Murray actually made these snowblowers for Sears. So first, call Murray Central Parts distributors at 800-848-8946 & see if they have part 50223 available.  That is the original part number for your worm gear. A close, alternative worm gear part number is from model 536.918201, and it's part # 51405 & its available from Sears parts for $35 - is this the gear you found that has 22 teeth? I would think that with only a one tooth difference, this other worm gear would be ok. If not, you would need the input shaft in addition to the gear. I would order 51405 from Sears (if you have no luck with Murray directly for the original gear) & try to compare it to your old gear (or what's left of it). You can always send the gear back & get your money minus the shipping (I think), so its worth a gamble IMHO since you say this machine is in good shape otherwise. Ebay might be another alternative. I'll look around tonight at work & see if I can locate one for you via the web.

Good Luck & let me know how you make out...

I really appreciate all the help on the worm gear. I believe the one that is at jackssmallengine is the one I need. I run a small engine shop and a guy called up knowing if I had one or could find one. I thought I looked pretty hard on all the different web sites. I did look at Jack's, but did not find this gear. I just happened to find  this site one by accident. Glad I did. I drive a 89 Buick Reatta and there is a web site solely dedicated to Reatta owners very simailar to this for any help a person may need. Isn't the internet great?  Thanks again
