Original Message   Feb 19, 2012 5:31 pm
Who do you think makes this one??? Never heard of a "Stanley" snowblower before. I saw this on my local CL just now - the ad posted by the seller is from the Sears website. Probably a B/S model with black and yellow "Stanley" colors...

Looks MTD to me. Not really seeing much on there there that would make me think AYP/Husky.

The bucket shape does not look MTD’ish.  They don’t have any triangular shoes that I’ve ever seen.  The chute does not look MTD or the dash and controls.  Weird handlebar  angle.  Looks 100% Chinese.

The only thing MTD close is the belt cover which is something like the one shown without the reverse curve on the bottom part.

Anyone ever seen triangular shoes on an MTD?

Full China job. Same as "Beast" from HomeDepot.com. Reviews indicate a poor machine.

Wow, what an insult, to more than one party.  That statement kind of flew off the handle.  Do you still represent Ariens?

Just give them a few years, they'll make them better than the Japanese and the Americans.  History seems to repeats itself over and over again.

What was insulting to China, the "Beast" part?  That is the model name of the machine carried by HD which seems to be the same machine.

The Honda Civic came to America in 1972.  Of course, this vehicle was not without ridicule when introduced.  However, this model has enjoyed uninterrupted production and still carries this name to today.  How many domestic brand can make this claim?

"How many domestic brand can make this claim?" F-150. Still outsells it, too.

I'm not trying to inject in the middle of that discussion. But when Ford says that the F-series is the best-selling truck, again, always strikes me kind of odd. Not that it's cheating, but the F-series includes a rather wide range.

Everything from a $20k (?) "stripped" 2WD F-150 to a, I don't know, much more expensive ($50k?) diesel dualie F-350, or whatever (I don't know the prices, and am not trying to start a discussion of whether a big one is really $47k or anything). Mind you, I'd expect the F-150 outsells the larger versions, and presumably (I have no idea) accounts for much of the sales volume by quantity. Thus lending more credibility to the "meat" of the claim.

But it feels a bit like Toyota renaming the Matrix, Corolla, Camry, Avalon into the C-100, C-200, C-300, and C-400, and then saying that the C-series is the best-selling car on the market. Well, sure, if you group it like that....

I'm not trying to knock Ford or anything like that. It's not directed at anyone here, the brand, the type of vehicle, or the country of origin. It's more a comment on marketing.

Hmm...don't know the exact number, but the Toyota Corolla might take away that outsell title.

I like the F-150, now comes with turbo charged engine.    But I don't mind the naturally aspirated V8 on the Raptor either.

OK, the SVT Lightning were supercharged, but that was a specialty vehicle.  It was specially made for the road, not offroad.     Can' it tow?  Don't know.

Sales figures sometimes are fudged with include fleet sales, which were predominantly domestic brands, until now.
