Would you buy a Project Honda for repower
Original Message   Dec 17, 2011 7:03 pm
HS624 - Blown engine - no engine.
I've yet to see this in person but pics look clean

I don't even know the specs on the 624 to confirm impeller/bucket specs---the trax 724 I looked at has 10" impeller and a smaller bucket height..

Time is not really something I have for a project right now with some construction projects ongoing at home.
I do have a soft spot for the Hydro tranny.

Whaddya guys say. Easy project on a repower.
Yay or nay ?

Other options here but the sellers seems to be amiss on communication.

Yeap. Exactly just that. Without being able to fire her up, one can only guess whether the tranny is okay or not

6 1/2 hp Honda clones are under $200 at Harbor freight, I put one on my Ariens last year with no problems. It should be an easy bolt on re power job, throttle and lights could be the only problem.

you can buy the honda clones at harbor freight for 99 dollars.

I'm not a OPE guy....I've yet to skim the surface on engine reading.
And the replacement would be a 9-11 HP engine....

Are the Predators just as good as the ~well talked~greyhounds.

With a coupon or if you catch a sale (I never seem to catch on when I need one) but the last regular price I had for a 6 1/2 hp was just under $200. + the extended no questions asked exchange warranty.

Sorry Mobile, I have never used the newer predator engine, but have flogged the hell out of quite a few greyhounds and haven't broken one yet.  YOu can go to the harbor freight site and see how well reviewed the new engine is.  The old greyhounds got very good reviews from owners on the harbor freight site.

Pretty hard to beat a 6.5hp engine for 99 dollars as long as it runs well.
