what is the difference?
Original Message   Nov 20, 2011 8:39 am
I have a techumseh  HMSK 80 318cc- they say it is rated at 8 hp. I also notice there are 318cc 10 hp units , so what s the difference? RPM? if so I also notice there are 356cc 10 HP Techunseh units. If so what is the difference in 10 hp 318 and and a 10 hp 356. I do not know of any power curve  charts for these engines .

318cc - 10hp one should have variable valve timing. :D

For what it's worth. Good or bad, right or wrong.  I always just use Honda's specs. as a base.  They have always rated their engines with a CC and Hp rating.
  • 5hp - 160cc
  • 8hp - 240cc
  • 9hp - 270cc
  • 11hp - 340cc
  • 13hp - 370cc
Since all the other manufacturers have started using displacements.  Figures are all over the board.  We were all better off when all they did was fudge the Hp ratings.
