Whats the difference in a Tecumseh HMSK80 and a HMSK100
#1   Nov 5, 2017 5:32 pm
I here you can make more power by adjusting the RPM higher. These engines are both 318 cc. Is the RPM set higher on a HMSK100? I here a lot about Hmsk100 throwing rods much more so than a Hmsk80. I want more power and have a chance to get a new Hmsk100. There is nothing wrong with my hmsk80 except it is 17 years old. Should I risk it? Is there and real benefit with a 10 hp unit vrs 8 ? Or should I just sell my old unit and buy a new one with more HP.

Any thoughts on these units? I am concerned about the strut to control the height on the Honda. If that fails then the unit is useless.
Hydro drive vrs Friction disk
#3   May 25, 2016 10:10 pm
I was wondering.Does a friction disk use more power than a hydro drive? Which drive uses less power to run, friction disk or hydro drive. Ariens shows their Hydro pro 32 towing a truck and trailer. That must put a lot of stress on the drive pump thus taking away the power to blow snow. A friction disk I'm sure will not tow a truck yet I'm sure it to looses power driving the wheels. I also believe a tracked unit uses, even more, power. The hybrid units from Honda do not have this problem because the tracks are driven by electric motors. All the engine power is directly going to the impeller and auger. That being the case do you guys think an Ariens pro track 28 will out throw a Honda HSS928AT or even an HSS1332AT? The Ariens has a bigger engine and more torque. Who is king of the Snow Ariens Hydro Protrack 28, Pro track 28 (friction disk) or the Hondas? If so why?

2016 Honda snowblower new features
#5   Jan 30, 2016 4:51 pm
Has anyone bought a new 2016 Honda snow blower. I am wondering about the new trigger steering feature as well as the engine shutoff feature for the auger. www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=5YLUyKehc7k#t=56 .It looks like it can cause problems. I was leaning to the 1132, these features are nice but i'm not sure about them. Then I found out Ariens no longer make the Hydro protrack 32. So Im looking at there hydro Protrack 28 with the Briggs and Stratton Polar Force 420cc. I also hear the new Honda snowblowers do not throw snow as well as the older units. The Cost of these units are close so that is not a factor. What are your thoughts. Which will you chose? I can get a 5 year warranty on the Ariens
