Has anyone ever used a pole trimmer?
Original Message   Jun 6, 2011 12:47 am
The kind that has a mini chainsaw at the end of a long pole.  If so, any feedback on how they preform would be appreciated.  I have a manual one...just a saw blade attached to an extendable pole, and it works okay but my red oaks and pin oaks are giving me more of a workout than I prefer.

Yes they work great... there are electric ones and gas one's  depends how much you are going to use it, and how fare from a power cord you are...

I have seen them in  8 inch bars,  I used to sel the Echo models a few years ago, I think they still sell them..

Thanks!  I'll pick one up this week.  I'm thinking maybe electric...one less engine to maintain.  I have a long 12 gauge extension cord but if that's not long enough I can always use my little portable generator.

I do not know how much trimming you are trying to do. I bought a 18volt black and decker. The pole is much longer than any gas unit. The unit is much cheaper too. Mine can cut a 6" dia  limb with no problem. I just use mine for trimming around the house. For that it is great. It might not cut as fast as a gas unit, but it gets the job done. If you are doing trimming for business a gas unit will be better
