Craftsman snowblower...need help
Original Message   Feb 21, 2011 8:13 pm
I had just purchased a craftsman snowblower yesterday for parts hoping that i could just swap the front end off of it from my old ariens 8 hp 24" cut which the motor just died while clearing my driveway. The guy i bought the craftsman off of had just hooked his dogs chain and ripped the gear box off.I had found the tag on it for the serial number but the numbers are warn off. It is probably about 5 years old, 10 hp 28" cut.

here is a link to a snowblower i found that looks pretty much exactly the same.

I would appreciate any help

If the Ariens has a dead engine and the Craftsman has a dead gearbox I think you will have an easier time moving the Craftsman engine to the Ariens then you will moving the Ariens front end to the Craftsman...

I have tried moving the Craftsman engine to the ariens body but it doesnt fit.the bolt pattern for the ariens front end is completely different than the craftsman.Only option i can think of now is to find replacement parts for the craftsman preferably but the tag with the model number is worn off. Is there any other way of possibly finding out what the model number would be on this without it or any ideas how i could identify what parts would fit it?

Moving the engine to the Ariens might be the only option you have.  Not sure if any of the propulsion parts of the Ariens and Craftsman machines are interchangeable due to being different manufacturers.   In most cases, B&S and Tecumseh engines can be moved between the domestics.  It's particularly easy if it's a Tecumseh engine replacing another Tecumseh engine.  Same with B&S.

Are you transferring a B&S engine to replace a Tecumseh?  You could transfer the bolt pattern from the new engine to the Ariens base and drill holes as required but you may have issues with the engine being at the correct height.

The bolt pattern to transfer the engine would be nothing to accomodate but the shaft from the engines are 2 different sizes so the shaft on the tecumseh is probably about 1 1/2" longer than the B&S as the B&S engine is an 8 HP and the Tecumseh is 10HP. Is there a way i can find parts that will fit the Craftsman blower without the model number of the machine?

Check with sears parts direct. If no luck contact MTD ,troy built , or Toro i'm sure they made it for sears. From your link it looks like a Toro

It's red, but it isn't a toro, looks more like a Husqvarna to me.
