extension cord wrapped around auger
Original Message   Dec 28, 2010 7:37 pm
I got the extension cord out .The snowblower is throwing snow .The auger is spinning as is the impeller.Dont hear any weird noisesBut I noticed on the side where I took the extension cord out,it looks like the auger is not snug up against the auger gear case as it is on the other side.Should I be concerned?I dont understand where this gap came from because the shear bolt is in the hole.

If the shear pin wasn't broken and everything is where it should be, It was probably always like that.  You may not have noticed it.

Your lucky it wasn't plugged in when your snowblower ate it. Bug zappers are for bugs, not people.

Mine chomped up a newspaper once and it jambed up in the second stage impeller housing. It took me over an hour to dig it out of there and as far a I know, the second stage was not shear pin driven.

Sounds like you knocked it out of alignment or may have actually distorted the second stage housing. I would loosen the belts so the impeller free wheels and see if it is rotates freely without binding up. If it binds, wobbles, or squeeks, something is bent.

Finally if it does not vibrate or chatter you may be better off leaving it alone but if your concerned, take it apart and look for damage.

Sometimes like a dent in the trunk lid of your car, it's not worth the repair effort. Damage done is damage done.
