Need Help with Ariens ST1032

My knowledge is limited...I just picked up one of these used...it runs great...but the problem is with the cord recoil...the cord does not recoil all the way back into the asembly. Is this an easy fix? I saw on this model the whole recoil assembly comes off easily...can that assembly just be replaced? If so - where is a good place for a part like that? Or is there a way to replace a piece of it - like the coil spring inside? Like i said - not a lot of experience with these...so your help will be great;y appreciated. Thanks.

Probably just need to wind the spring a bit tighter. Have a look at these videos http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e6VjkMsrJaY&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8jKwGZ5w7dY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3NjVomUQJM&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zelPN20xVrM&feature=related That should give you enough videos to keep you busy all day. Just make sure you don't let the spring unwind all the way or pop out while you have it apart.

Thanks for your help..maybe someone else who is familiar will come across this... That "sticker" is actually a plastic piece that I have taken off...from what I see it doesn't hold anything but just fits into a hole.

Some recoils have a screw to retain the assembly to the housing so can be disassembled and repaired. Parts exploded views for this type often show the internal spring and have a part number so orderable. Your model is held together by a pressed and bent over sleeve and not meant to be repaired. I toss them. Those are generally shown as a complete assembly so no internal parts exploded and no part numbers. You can double check yours by feeding your engine number to http://www.outdoordistributors.com/Tecumseh/tecumseh_part_lists.html. You can also get the correct part number for you complete assembly there and google around for prices. The replacement will just bolt on and work. You can also go to a local shop and see if they have any old recoils around. Bring your recoil. I tossed one yesterday off a 1028.
