Snowblower Care: Bucket and Chute lubricants
Original Message   Dec 15, 2009 9:20 am
O.K. gang, tackling one of the age old questions. What is a good lubricant or protectant for the business end of a cnowblower. The one that I bought, and have nto yet used, was coated with spray cooking oil, I have also heard of spray waxes, seen a few spray teflon items, also have heard of people using WD-40 liberally,

Does any make more sense than another, or are they all pretty much useless and not needed?

Just about anything you put on there will come off pretty quickly.   X-Country ski wax might stick for a little while.

Borat lined his chute with some sort of "silly mat" or "crazy mat" which was supposed to be very slippery.

Good high gloss paint is pretty slick and it will stay on many seasons.  Wire brush and sand with an overcoat of matching Rustoleum.

I use automobile wax (Turtle Wax) on the inside of the chute. The snow doesn't stick to the sides. It's a good idea to apply a coat of wax to the metal painted surfaces of the snowblower as well.
