What's Wrong With This Ariens Snowblower?
Original Message   Dec 13, 2009 11:46 pm
My neighbor has a full-frame 24" Ariens Two-Stage with an 8 HP Tecumseh motor. The snowblower is about 10 years old and does not appear to have been carefully maintained. He says the gear shifter is frozen in reverse...it will not go forward. I'm not sure if it is the shifter itself that is the problem or if it is something internal. His Ariens is an all-steel heavy duty machine and is worth saving. Do you guys have any suggestions as to what might be the problem?

I would guess the hex shaft for the drive disc is sticking/rusted or something in that area. If you remove the lower cover you should be able to see what is causing this.

You need a rubber hammer and  Spray penetrating oil for the drive shaft of the friction ring........   spray the shaft and tapp it till it comes loose.

be sure not to get the oil on the rubber ring or the drive disc it rolls on..
