The throttle cable on my ST824 is shot.  A new lever and cable is around $30, but the lever is fine.  I looked at some generic throttle controls and they come with about twice as much cable as I need (only need about 25").  Anyone know somewhere I can buy just throttle cable and housing?

Bring your old cable to a bicycle shop. They will probably have just what you need for a couple of bucks. Make sure you get a stainless steel cable and lube it with some white lithium grease if you can get it in there. Otherwise, use some light oil to lube it.

The outer housing on cables is sometimes good, leaving you only to replace the parts that you need to repair the cable.

   He's looking for the wire wrap housing style with a single stiff wire inside.  The ends go to holes like a governor link.   The ends are shapped the same as a governor link, two quick 90 degree angle and fit into holes like a governor link.

   I've never seen that style cable available in bulk or short pieces.  You can get generic or Ariens OEM throttles for 5-15 dollars but usually have to get them online so a shipping charge.  If you can bend your own ends then the hardware places have generic throttle cables you can cut to size.   There's probably some guy in your area that has a bunch of old Ariens bodies.    

I used to have the tool to bend the "z" at the end of solid wire, the inner and outer wire, pluse the tool can be ordered from Rotory Corp. ( I can't remember the length of the min amount)

Interesting, I never knew there was such a tool. I've had to bend a few ends and it's a pain in the neck getting the 90 right so they don't slip. The hand bending generally don't come out that good. This days I horde old cables from scrap bodies.

if i have to make the Z bend in a cable thats broken l heat it glowing red first its bends much easier then and wont break on u.. l just use my hand held torch for solidering wire it work great. but l wouldnt mind getting one of those kits for the shop it looks neat and handy!
