Troy-Bilt
Original Message   May 13, 2009 1:43 pm
I am looking to scratch/till up small bare areas of my yard in order to plant grass seed. Am tired of doing it by hand as some areas are a little too large. Was looking at Lowes at the little Troy-Bilt 4-cycle 26cc Cultivator they had there for $299   I like the idea that it's a 4-cycle but that's about all I know. Do you think this would do the job?

Thanks.

I have the exact same machine and it's worth every penny.  I had a Craftsman 2 cycle with the Incredi-pull start feature that was always giving me trouble, so I replaced it with the 4 cycle Troy-Bilt mini cultivator and couldn't be happier.  It's easy to start and deceptively powerful with the bonus of no mixing gas and oil.  I wouldn't use it to till up a two acre garden but I have used it to effortlessly till up new 5 foot by 20 foot flower beds.  You can vary how aggressive it tills by setting the height of the wheels.  Also I've found that for the most aggressive tilling to slightly lift up on the handlebars and pull the machine backwards.
