Clarence impeller kit or leave well enough alone
Original Message   Feb 4, 2009 8:16 pm
I have recently repowered my Ariens 924050 with a B&S intec.  The information from this board was invaluable.  Got a great place buying the engine on ebay from small engine warehouse.  Instead of paying the price from their website ~ I made an offer and saved money.

Here is my question.  I Love this snowblower (although I miss my 40 year old craftsman, and wish I had repowered it). . .is it worthwhile to install the impeller kit or should I resign myself to having difficulty with wet snow?  I have seen the video of Denis' snowblower on youtube.  If that snow is what he says it is, my Ariens would have made lovely chute shaped slushcicles. . .advice?

Go for it. You will see a major difference especialy with a half inch of clearance. Good luck,

When you repowered did you increase Hp, change pulley sizes etc? I plan on doing a power-up and rebuild of older Ariens 824 with cast iron worm gear housing. With an increase of rpm and Clarence impeller kit it should do much better job than my newer 824. It seems like a cost effective way to get dependable hd machine.

no. . .used the same pulley, went from a 8hp tecumseh to a 7.75 hp briggs intec.  1 inch shaft to 3/4 with a sleeve.  It throws better than before.  Overall, pretty easy switch ~ My ariens had mounting holes for a briggs. . .cut off the studs that mounted the tecumseh, bolted on the briggs.
