i am looking at a used simplicity 860 snowblower. anybody have any info on this model. not sure how old it is but it looks really heavy duty. it's either that, or a used toro powershift 8/24. which do you think is better?.

The 860e came out a few years ago, so its older than that....860 is bigger than the 860e too.  I think.bigger impellor, heavier.  Is it OHV?

I think condition is everything with a used machine. I think the 860 is the old large frame machine like the newer 960. I think the power shifts I have seen are very nice. I liked the heavy looking gearbox, which I thought had a differential to make turning easier. And I think the weight transfer feature is nice if you have a use for it, like a hill.

I think if I do much more thinking my thinker will cramp.

They are both great machines pending the condition they are in (as Rob mentioned), use they have had and care they have received.  It is my understanding also that the power shift is all heavy duty gears and a differential.  Neither is a creamfuff though so even if used a lot if it was taken care of that is more important.  I like them both.  How much are they asking is a factor also.

Welcome to the forum.
