Did you ever had to face this situation?
Original Message   Jan 22, 2009 3:11 pm
As I mentionned in another topic about my Ariens gearcase, I had to pull over the shaft inside the impeller, It took me 3 days total, what I use is:  half can of liquid wrench,  a 25 pounds sledge hammer,

3 inch vice,  steel cutter grinder . At the beginning I was  a bit frustrated but with patient I got it out.

I found the part Ariens shat and gear assembly  52402600 for  $109.00 CDN I think it's a fair price...

I would check the condition of the welds while its out and since you were hammering it. Also PB BLASTER for rust would have gotten in there much faster and worked easier.

The  way I hammered the rod is very simple and safe for the welds. I cut the rod 4 inches on each side, then I openned the vice just enough to let the rod passed between the jaws (flat side of impeller upward) in that way hammering the rod doesn't affect the welds as long you knock straight    when the rod got down near 1/2 inch to the plate ,  I grinded the outside of the rod and I drilled a small hole in the middle after that I used a big punch and got  it straight down.
