Snow Blowers riders vs walk behind

I've seen lots of discussions concerning walk behind snow blowers but little on the riders. My questions are since its not unheard to cost of $2000+(new) for a walk-behind, why not a good used rider? In ads I see GOOD USED? John Deere etc for less than $2000. At what point is a rider better than a walk-behind? Your views will be helpful. Thanks
